Gensler is looking for a technical environmental graphic designer to join its team in San Francisco.
Gensler’s San Francisco office is seeking a technical signage/environmental graphic designer who demonstrates a passion for helping clients enhance their brand and business performance through design and has the technical knowledge and expertise to lead documentation teams, coordinate fabrication and oversee all aspects of project implementation. This position will focus on the ability to understand a client’s brand and lead the creation of design documentation required to express that brand through graphic, environmental and digital design. Our technical signage/environmental graphic designer must be an inspiring mentor with the ability to support technical team growth.
This position will join one of Gensler’s cutting-edge design studios, a collaborative team of designers, strategists, digital experience experts and storytellers that engages with a wide variety of clients on projects of all sizes—from campus signage systems and digital environments to wayfinding strategy and international brand positioning. Our approach combines design and architectural expertise with a unique point of view and strong communication skills. What you will do
As a technical signage/environmental graphic designer, you must have stellar conceptual, technical and hands-on design and documentation experience and show a portfolio of work that is compelling, detailed and highly creative. You must love to generate new ideas, be passionate about details and materials, and get excited about being a part of diverse team of researchers, strategists, user experience designers, content designers, and creative technologists. You must be a passionate self-starter who will take the lead on all technical aspects of design documentation, managing your time across multiple projects as well as leading and growing a technically oriented team. Your design documentation solutions will have a strong emphasis on integrating concepts into built environments. You will coordinate between multiple internal projects teams and clients, including working seamlessly with remote teams within our Northwest region and our global network.
- bachelor’s degree in graphic design, industrial design, environmental design, architecture, visual communication or similar
- over eight years’ professional experience in a related field of work
- experience with planning, documentation and management of environmental graphic, wayfinding and signage projects in the context of the built environment
- works well in an interdisciplinary, fast-paced environment
- ability to visualise and document ideas in two and three dimensions
- excellent presentation skills with direct experience presenting to clients
- familiarity with architectural construction documents, sections, plans and elevations, proficiency in drawing in scale
- highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator with CAD tools, Photoshop), Microsoft Word and Excel
- ability to work in 3D modelling programs that allow integration with architectural drawings and modelling, such as SketchUp, Revit, or Adobe Dimension is a strong advantage
- working knowledge of motion graphics software, digital video editing, or other skills related to designing for and creating dynamic content a plus
