Accounts assistant
at Piercy&Company

Piercy&Company is hiring an accounts assistant to join its team in London, UK.

Piercy&Company is an award-winning, Camden-based studio founded in 2002 by architect Stuart Piercy. Our interdisciplinary practice comprises 80-plus architects, designers and researchers with a shared passion for materials, form, technology and craft. We work on projects at every scale, from master plans and large-scale buildings to interiors and objects.

We are looking for an accounts assistant to join our busy creative studio. The role sits within the finance team, which is part of the larger studio team. The accounts assistant is a pivotal contact point for accounts matters for both staff and external clients and providers, so a friendly and helpful outlook is essential. The successful candidate will help document and maintain the business’s finance procedures, updating and implementing them wherever necessary, as well as helping support the smooth running of the studio.

Key tasks include:

  • invoice and expense claims processing
  • credit card expenses processing
  • month end: accruals and prepayments postings; reconciliations between systems
  • processing fortnightly pay runs
  • credit control
  • maintaining the company’s purchase and sales ledgers
  • bank reconciliation
  • raising sales invoices.
  • liaising with third-party providers, clients, and suppliers
  • basic administration
  • updating and maintaining procedural documentation
  • assisting with financial reporting, budgeting and other ad-hoc finance projects

Job qualifications, skills and experience

A degree in a relevant subject area (such as accounting, finance or business) is desirable but not essential. We are equally open to applicants with practical experience gained in a related creative or professional services environment. This could include roles within an accounts department, credit control team or even as a studio assistant in an architectural or design practice. Most importantly, we’re looking for someone with the right attitude, attention to detail, a strong work ethic and a genuine interest in developing their career in finance.

Ideally, candidates will have around 18 to 24 months of prior experience in a finance-related role, such as within an accounts or credit control team, and be confident using Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel. We use Xero and CMAP, so experience in these programmes would be an advantage. Evidence of working towards an accounting qualification such as AAT, CIMA, or ACCA is preferred, though a willingness to begin or continue studies in this area is equally valued.

The following soft skills are also important for success in this role:

  • high level of accuracy
  • strong analytical skills
  • excellent communication skills
  • people skills

Piercy&Company is an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) and as such, we have an inclusive and collaborative culture. Employee benefits on offer include:

  • annual profit share scheme
  • EAP (Employee Assistance Programme)
  • enhanced paternity and maternity leave
  • training and development opportunities
  • studio outings and social events
  • access to CPDs and internal talks
  • after two years annual leave increased to 25 days
  • health and wellbeing initiatives – cycle to work scheme, communal kitchen well stocked with essentials, weekly F45 workout sessions, monthly masseuse, various in-house workshops and activities
  • office closed during the Christmas period

Remuneration will be competitive and dependent upon experience. We annually benchmark salaries against our industry peers.
