Associate director – structural engineering

Whitby Wood is looking for a structural engineering associate director to join its team in London.
We are seeking a structures associate director to join our busy London studio, taking technical and financial responsibility for multiple projects, leading on proposals for new ones, managing a team of technical people and participating in senior management team activities. Whitby Wood works on a wide range of project typologies and scales, on projects in the UK and internationally. We are looking for proven ability to work on your own initiative as well as contribute and work well as part of a team.
Core responsibilities:
- take technical and financial responsibility for multiple projects – act as ‘project director’ as defined by Whitby Wood
- line manage multiple staff members and be responsible for PDRs
- participate in all senior management team activities (management – meeting, business transformation, business development, JMS/invoicing)
- lead and be responsible for proposals for new projects
- act as an ambassador for Whitby Wood to external clients
- ensure that sustainability is at the heart of all work. Carry out the Whitby Wood environmental mission statement
- ensure that team members are comparing structural options and materials and undertaking carbon calculations to help find the lowest carbon solutions and try to reduce the environmental impact of projects
Qualifications and experience:
- ten plus years’ experience
- have a degree (or equivalent) in a suitable engineering discipline
- chartered with ICE or IstructE or equivalent accreditation
- a portfolio of built projects
