DC+HD is hiring an architectural design director to join its team in Qingdao, China.
DC+HD has been established by two companies; Decai Decorations Co. LTD and HDDA LTD; each of whom are individually important and significant within their own regions in the field of design, construction, architecture and master planning.
This is China and the United Kingdom coming together: DC+HD have merged their skills, developing a design philosophy and a working methodology that can combine the best of two cultures and bring it to bear on any specific project anywhere in the world.
The scale of our projects ranges from urban master-planning to mass-produced, prefabricated industrial products. We are currently working on a number of projects that include transport projects, hotel and leisure projects, education, a botanical garden, high rise mixed-use, residential and interior design, to name just a few.
We are seeking an experienced Architectural Design Director to lead our international design team and drive innovation in high-end architectural projects. The ideal candidate should possess a global design perspective, exceptional team management skills, and a deep understanding of the Chinese architectural market.
Responsibilities:
- lead the architectural design team, overseeing conceptual design and technical execution for high-end commercial, hospitality, mixed-use, and cultural projects
- ensure design concepts meet international standards while complying with local Chinese regulations and market demands
- coordinate communication and collaboration between international design teams and local stakeholders, including contractors, government agencies, and clients
- optimize design workflows, enhance team efficiency, and promote the adoption of digital design tools (BIM/parametric design)
- contribute to the company’s global strategic development and assist in expanding international business opportunities
Requirements
Education
Master’s degree or higher in Architecture or a related field.Internationally recognized architectural license required.
Experience:
- ten plus years’ of international architectural design experience, with five plus years’ in team leadership
- proven track record in leading high-end commercial, hospitality, cultural, or large-scale mixed-use projects. Experience in Asia (especially China) is a plus
Technical skills:
- familiarity with international design standards and Chinese building codes/construction practices
- proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, and BIM workflows
- deep understanding of sustainable design, smart buildings, and industry trends
- RIBA (UK) or AIA (US) membership preferred
Soft skills:
- strong cross-cultural communication skills and ability to collaborate with international and local teams
- adaptability to fast-paced environments with a business-oriented and project management mindset
Location
Full-time position based in Qingdao, China. Work visa and relocation support provided.
