Retrofit project architect
at Hope Dusek Architects
There is a vacancy for a retrofit project architect at Hope Dusek Architects to join its team remotely.
Hope Dusek Architects is seeking a project architect to join our growing studio on a fixed-term contract with the opportunity to progress into a permanent role.
This is an exciting opportunity to take the lead on a significant historic retrofit and redevelopment of a listed office building, forming the future headquarters of an established construction company. We are seeking a confident RIBA and ARB-registered architect, ideally with several years of post-registration experience, who is ready to step into a highly independent role with genuine responsibility and long-term growth potential.
The role
The successful candidate will lead the technical delivery of this flagship project, taking ownership of key packages and helping drive the scheme through its next stages.
This is a remote position, offering significant flexibility and autonomy. However, the role will require travel to project sites, client meetings, consultant workshops and other project-related appointments as required.
Responsibilities will include:
- leading the delivery of a historic retrofit office redevelopment within a listed building context
- producing and coordinating RIBA Stage 4 construction documentation
- managing and discharging planning conditions, including heritage-related requirements
- coordinating consultants and technical information across the project team
- ensuring buildability, technical quality and efficient project progression
- attending site visits, client meetings, consultant coordination meetings and project reviews as required
- working independently while contributing to the wider studio as it grows
This role offers strong autonomy and would suit someone looking for a genuine step up in responsibility within a supportive and ambitious practice.
About you
We are looking for an architect who is:
- ARB registered and RIBA qualified
- ideally several years post-registration, though strong candidates at varying levels will be considered
- experienced in producing technical and construction-stage information
- confident leading packages or projects with a high degree of independence
- comfortable navigating planning, coordination and technical problem-solving
- organised, proactive and self-motivated in a remote working environment
- willing and able to travel to sites and meetings as required
- experienced in retrofit, refurbishment, heritage or listed building projects (desirable)
- ideally a Vectorworks user or willing to train and develop within our studio workflows

- extensions and bespoke residential alterations
- planning-led and technically complex architectural projects
- office, commercial and delivery-focused schemes
As the studio continues to grow, there will be opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in wider project work beyond the initial appointment.
Contract and opportunity:
- fixed-term contract (anticipated 6 to 12 months, to be agreed)
- remote position with travel to project sites and meetings as required
- opportunity to transition into a permanent role for the right candidate
- competitive salary dependent on experience
- immediate or near-term start preferred
This is a strong opportunity for an architect looking to take ownership of a technically rewarding project while joining a practice with long-term ambitions and room for progression.
