Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Project architect
at IPA Architects
IPA Architects is looking for a project architect to join its team in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
About us:
IPA Architects Dar Es Salaam office was established 30 years ago as a branch office of a London firm. Since that time has grown to become one of the foremost architectural practices in Tanzania.
Our portfolio of completed projects includes landmark government buildings (e.g. State House, Presidents Office), the new international Dar es Salaam airport terminal, as well as award-winning office buildings and schools.
Current projects include the new Ministry of Finance headquarters in the government capital city of Dodoma, various educational projects, new hotel and apartment projects, and a luxury lodge in the Serengeti.
As a result of a vibrant, growing economy in one of the powerhouses of sub-Saharan Africa, we have a very exciting list of upcoming projects to look forward to, in a variety of different sectors.
One of these new projects is a major new HQ building for the largest bank in Tanzania. Preliminary concept design has already been completed and approved by the client, but we are now recruiting a new project architect to lead this project.
Who we are looking for:
IPA are now recruiting specifically for a talented project architect to lead this major new office project. Total scale is over 50,000 square metres and over 25 storeys, so we are looking for a candidate with a proven track record of designing and overseeing major office and commercial developments.
The successful candidate would be expected to lead this project team, both in terms of overall design, as well as oversight during the construction stage of the project. A full team of local and international consultants will be appointed on this project in the coming two months.
Skills required:
It cannot be overstated that any applicants must be able to demonstrate very high design skills, both conceptually as well as illustrated in at least three completed projects.
Although preliminary concept design has already been completed for this project, we consider this as unfinished work and once the new project architect is in position, they will have to take full ownership of the design and lead it from this point onwards.
Ideally, the candidate should have at least five-10 years qualified job running experience.
Proven working experience on Revit is essential.
Package:
This is a full-time position. Expatriate package would include accommodation, periodic flights home, medical insurance, and a competitive salary package, which would be commensurate with the skills and experience level of the successful candidate.
Normal work permits in Tanzania are for two years, so anyone thinking about applying for this position should take that as a benchmark and as a guide as to what the preliminary contract duration would be. The work permit will be facilitated and paid for by IPA.
Context and destination:
Tanzania is a fascinating and beautiful country and has so much to offer the right candidate. Our office in Dar is a friendly and vibrant workplace where everyone works shoulder to shoulder to execute the best possible buildings that we can.
Over the years, we at IPA have employed many expatriate architects in our Dar office and, it would be safe to say that all of them have found the experience highly rewarding and, when they do leave Tanzania, do so with many great memories, both professionally as well as from their experiences of the people and country at large.
Interested candidates should apply with CV and concise portfolio to [email protected].
