Architect/Part 2 architectural assistant
at Studio M R
Studio M R is seeking an architect or a Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in London.
Studio M R is looking for a talented and experienced architect or a Part 2 architectural assistant to join our studio in Kentish Town, London.
Studio M R is an award-winning architectural practice working predominantly on carefully considered residential projects across London and the South-West. Our work ranges from the transformation of existing and historic buildings to substantial refurbishments and new-build homes, alongside selected boutique hospitality projects.
Our approach begins with understanding how our clients want to live. Each project responds to the individual client, place and context, with particular attention to space, movement, natural light, landscape, materials and craftsmanship.
We are looking for someone who shares this approach, preferably with experience working across all RIBA stages, combining strong design skills with the technical knowledge and attention to detail required to develop and deliver high-quality buildings.
The role
You will be involved in projects from early design through technical development and construction, working closely with the wider Studio M R team, as well as with clients, consultants and contractors.
As a small and collaborative studio, we are looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a team, contributing ideas and sharing knowledge while taking responsibility for their own work. The role will involve contributing across different aspects of a project rather than being limited to a particular stage.
We are looking for someone with:
- strong design ability and architectural judgement
- experience across all RIBA stages (desirable, but not essential for Part 2 position)
- strong technical knowledge and experience producing detailed construction information (desirable, but not essential for Part 2 position)
- excellent attention to detail
- a collaborative approach and an ability to work closely with the Studio M R team
- experience coordinating consultants and other members of the wider design team (not applicable to Part 2 position)
- confidence communicating with clients and contributing to project delivery (not essential for Part 2 position)
- an interest in materials, craftsmanship and carefully resolved architectural detailing
- a thoughtful and proactive approach to their work
- experience in high-quality residential architecture, refurbishment and working with existing buildings would be particularly valuable
- experience working through the construction stages and communicating confidently with contractors would be an advantage (not applicable to Part 2 position)
About Studio M R
Studio M R is a small, collaborative practice where everyone contributes meaningfully to the work of the studio. We believe good architecture develops through dialogue within the studio and with clients, consultants and craftspeople, and through careful consideration at every stage of a project.
We remain closely involved from the first conversations and initial design through to technical development and construction, with the aim of carrying the original architectural ideas and attention to detail through to the finished building.
We offer:
- competitive salary
- career development and opportunities for increased responsibility
- support towards ARB / RIBA Part 3 and other professional qualifications through mentoring and involvement in relevant projects
- one paid staff wellbeing day every month
- social events and educational outings
- opportunities to attend external lectures, exhibitions, design events and other industry gatherings
Location: Kentish Town, London
