Koichi Takada Architects is a Sydney-based boutique architecture firm, led by Koichi Takada. Founded in 2008, it is a young, innovative and award-winning practice which has already delivered a wide range of architectural and interiors projects in residential, hospitality, commercial and cultural venues.

We now have an opportunity for a project architect or experienced Architect to join our team based in Tokyo, Japan. You will have the support of highly experienced directors and associates, ensuring your continuous growth and enabling your career progression within the company. You will work on various types projects from design concept through to delivery. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • leading multiple projects from concept design to construction
  • all phases of the design process including schematic design, design development, construction documentation and contract administration
  • tracking the progress of each project and report to the directors
  • building and maintaining client relationships
  • liaising with clients and local authorities
  • closely collaborating with the design team, consultants and contractors
  • conduct code analyses and be the primary contact with local jurisdictions
  • adhering to all project programmes, deadlines and deliverables
  • coordination of technical coordination with design team and consultants
  • producing AutoCAD/Revit drawings, checking and marking up shop drawings, reviewing your team’s drawings
  • leading a small team, mentoring juniors

The ideal candidate for the role will be an all-rounder with the following experience, skills and attributes:

  • strong communication skills in English and Japanese
  • bachelor/Masters Degree from an accredited school of architecture
  • 1st class Japanese architecture licence
  • five + years postgraduate experience in project in Japan
  • proficient in documenting in AutoCAD and Revit
  • proven experience in coordinating a small internal team and liaising with clients, authorities, consultants
  • a high sense of responsibility with an excellent eye for detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • mature communication skills
  • a strong work ethic and “can do” attitude with an eagerness to learn and a commitment to deliver outstanding work
  • excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • thorough knowledge of Japanese local planning and buildings codes
