Architectural technical coordinator

Sheehan Nagle Hartray Associates is seeking a professional and experienced individual to fill the role of architectural technical coordinator.

Sheehan Nagle Hartray Associates specialises in the design and delivery of large, commercial mission-critical facilities. Our clients include premier builders and users of data centre facilities around the world. Our projects are located in the major internet hubs around Europe and north America. Our office is a fast-paced fun environment. We offer competitive salaries and benefits.

The architectural technical coordinator (ATC) will be involved in all technical aspects of project delivery in our office and is required to provide assistance and guidance to the project managers with the processes of developing and implementation of construction drawings, detailing, and coordination activities. The ATC is also responsible for implementing the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) program in coordination with SNHA’s other offices and is responsible to adapt our standard details and procedures as needed for each of our major clients. The architectural technical coordinator is also tasked with reviewing standards that our clients may bring to us and noting any concerns or areas for potential improvement. The ATC should also research new technologies, materials, and building systems that can improve the quality, cost-effectiveness and performance of our work, and seek to integrate these technologies and systems into our projects to ensure that we remain technical leaders in our field.

Essential to this role is the mentoring of staff to support, develop, and monitor the technical quality of production within the office. Ideally, this is an integrated approach that includes all members of the project team and enhances the appreciation of excellent drawings, coordinated information, and well-detailed buildings as part of the overall design culture of the firm. The architectural technical coordinator should coordinate with related initiatives in design, technology/BIM, and project management to ensure a comprehensive approach toward achieving the highest standards of quality in our work.

Ultimately, the ATC, in partnership with management and leaders in the office, should establish a culture of excellence that results in:

  • high-quality, organised, and professional construction documents that are coordinated across all disciplines
  • well-designed and thoughtful detailing which maintains the design concepts
  • excellent construction quality and building performance
  • increased technical competency of all the staff
  • improved internal processes for project delivery

Technical leadership responsibilities:

  • provide oversight of the technical aspects of project delivery including project startup, implementation and quality
  • work with the project team to assure early compliance with building codes and program
  • review client standards against best practices and note any concerns or potential areas for improvement
  • understand and respond to the technical implications of design decisions
  • collaborate with the project managers, ensuring each team member fully understands their role, responsibilities, and their importance to project success
  • work with the BIM coordinator in developing efficient documentation approaches for BIM-based project delivery
  • monitor project status, quality and efficiency
  • maintain a working list of firm-wide lessons learned and unresolved issues
  • review all documentation periodically to assure conformance with quality standards and program
  • ensure thorough review of all construction documentation before release.
  • develop a workable QA-QC plan of guidelines and checklists
  • help facilitate in-house training to improve knowledge of staff; drive home the importance of quality in everything we do

Skills and experience required:

  • more than eight years’ working in a similar role in an architectural office as a technical coordinator, technical architect or architectural technologist.
  • appreciation of Revit/BIM
  • multitasker who can handle a fast-paced environment, while maintaining an emphasis on detail and quality
  • effectively communicate and work with every level of employee from general end-users to high-level managers and directors
  • detailed understanding of construction processes, materials and assemblies
  • The position is open to UK-based applicants only. The candidate should demonstrate excellent technical capability, plus possess great interpersonal and communication skills
