Draftsperson

Charles Avery Studio has an opportunity for a draftsperson to join its team in London.
The artist Charles Avery is seeking a draftsperson/technical assistant trained in the conventions of architectural hand-drawing including complicated multi-point perspective setups as well as computer 2D and 3D drawing to develop ongoing projects including exhibitions, architecture and furniture design.
The position
Three to five days per week, full-time (PAYE) or freelance, starting April-June, depending on the candidate.
Salary: 24-28k or freelance rate negotiable.
The successful candidate will work close to Charles Avery on a variety of projects ranging from large-scale installations to drawings and built architectural projects. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a challenging and rewarding working environment and to contribute to an ambitious ongoing art-project.
Since 2005, Charles Avery has dedicated his practice to the description of a fictional island which he continues to elaborate, with its own population, customs and philosophies, nature and architecture, expressed in the form of drawings, sculptures, installations and texts. The project has shown widely in museums and events throughout the world including exhibitions at Tate Britain, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Hayward Gallery, David Roberts Arts Foundation, Boijmans van Beuningen Museum and the Biennales of Venice, Istanbul, Lyon, Kochi and Taipei.
Person and role specifications
We are looking to appoint a sociable, dedicated, efficient, talented, focused and precise individual to join our small team, based in east London.
Essential requirements:
- a high degree of proficiency in Rhino
- Part 1 or Part 2 or Part 3 architecture
- excellent hand-drafting skills including familiarity with the conventions of architectural drawing such us multipoint perspective setups
- ability to work with others and independently
- excellent written and spoken English
Other desirable skills
- architectural model-making
- knowledge of other modeling programs such as Grasshopper and SketchUp
- knowledge of other relevant software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
- knowledge of creation of files for 3D printing
- knowledge of mathematics
- driving license
- confident cyclist
