Gensler is seeking an interior design lead to join its team in Munich, Germany.

Your role

This role will give you the chance to help build our Munich and Germany business as a co-pilot to our Managing Director and establish Gensler in the mainland European market. As a market-facing design lead with deep knowledge and experience, you will be charged to build our book of business through thought leadership and cultivating strategic relationships in our new Munich studio. With a start-up mentality alongside others in the office, you will be adept at business development while also taking on a design leadership role on projects. Working collaboratively with others within the offices in the region and Gensler network in Munich, you will help shape how we get the work, lead the dialogue on design innovation, and help nurture the next generation of design professionals.

What you will do:

  • grow our Munich practice through expanding existing relationships and developing new lines of work
  • develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key constituents
  • collaborate with design teams to deliver informed project solutions based on market expertise and deep understanding of client goals
  • work closely with office and studio leaders to identify and recruit best-in-class talent
  • lead the relationships with the client, contractor, agencies, as well as engineering and specialty consultants
  • developing programming, consulting, strategic planning, conceptual designs, space planning, presentations, design development, and production
  • mentor and provide creative direction to design teams
  • act as the primary design interface with clients and consultants
  • collaborate with team members and colleagues to promote an inter-disciplinary design approach and philosophy
  • take a proactive role in building the future of the business, publishing thought pieces, speaking at events, and generally promoting our ideas

Your qualifications:

  • over 15 years’ experience demonstrably building relationships and exceeding the needs of clients with a strong design portfolio
  • degree in interior design, architecture or related field
  • proven ability to build a book of business and to deliver on large-scale projects, particularly in the local market
  • connected and well-regarded within the community and active in industry organisations
  • possess strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate ideas in interviews and other presentations
  • a desire to mentor team members, offer guidance and leadership
  • experience creating and developing overall design concepts and formulating design presentation strategies
  • strong, persuasive communicator with excellent verbal presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex design concepts to clients
  • ability to use 2D/3D software, including Revit, AutoCAD, 3D Studio MAX, Sketch up, PhotoShop, In Design and Illustrator, and PowerPoint
  • demonstrated expertise in sustainable building practices and/or office leadership in sustainable building practices experience preferred
  • you are a strong, nimble, super-communicator in any medium, with a high EQ. It’s never “your way or the highway” it’s “how can we get there together?”
  • are collaborative! That’s not just a buzzword around here, it’s evident across our studios, teams, clients, offices and regions
  • are savvy in business matters and have financial acumen. Your familiarity with corporate structures allows you to navigate within existing processes translating to effective work plans and outcomes
  • are strategic, proactive, intuitive and see the big picture and are able to resolve conflict and balance constraints
  • are able to travel to other Gensler offices or client project locations if needed
  • have excellent references and personal portfolio of work
