Build Up is recruiting freelance construction leads to run projects over the next year in London.
Do you have a talent for leading small-scale construction projects, enjoy working with people and want to have a positive impact on local communities in London? We’re looking for freelance construction leads to join our team.
You’ll be joining a multi-award-winning charity that supports young people to shape their local area. On our construction projects, young people learn practical skills as they design and build permanent, high-quality and accessible spaces for local communities.
What we’re looking for
This role would suit someone that can manage construction sites, support a small team, and work with people of all ages and abilities. You have experience in small scale construction, carpentry, set building, landscaping/gardening or a related field and can coordinate other trades. You’re a flexible and creative problem-solver.
The role
This is a key role in our team, in which you’ll be responsible for leading project construction from start to finish. You’ll work with our design team to ensure proposals can be built, and develop effective construction details. Supervising our site staff, along with supporting the development of our young people (18-23 years old) on work placement, are central elements of this role.
Who we are
Build Up puts young people in control of building public and community spaces like Build Up Hackney. Our work helps young people make decisions about their local area and become skilled, capable and confident citizens. Past projects include a bike repair workshop, outdoor classrooms and playgrounds. The quality of our spaces is important, as is using accessible methods and considered construction details to create structures worthy of the communities they serve.
