Handel Architects is seeking an architect/architectural designer to join its team in New York.

Our New York office is currently seeking a detail-oriented architect/architectural designer for construction administration with three to five years’ post-graduate professional experience to manage the day-to-day construction administration on a Passive House high-rise. The 100% affordable multi-family residential tower is the second phase in a two-phase development in East Harlem that began construction in July 2021. In this role you will work directly with the project architect.

Responsibilities:
- reviewing and processing shop drawings and tracking open and priority items for review
- reviewing samples, substitutions, and mock-ups for use in the project
- preparing sketches and supplemental documentation in response to contractor RFIs or design/coordination changes
- bi-weekly site visits and owner/architect/contractor meetings
- assembling field observation reports and tracking open issues
- participating in coordination meetings
- coordinating documentation and reviewing project data for compliance to applicable codes and standards (Passive House, NYC BC 2014, NYCECC, HPD standards, Accessibility standards, Enterprise Green Communities, etc.)
Qualifications:
- professional degree in architecture
- three to five years’ post-graduate professional experience, preferably in high-rise multi-family and mixed-use development
- understanding of construction practices in NYC
- experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and MS Office
- ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple, tight deadlines and work on various tasks concurrently
- excellent graphic presentation, verbal and written communication skills
- highly organised and detail-oriented team-player
- strong critical thinking skills, an ability to carry out design concept to realisation
- general knowledge of the Passive House Standard as defined by the Passive House Institute (PHI) is a plus
- familiarity with building codes is a plus
