Design team lead/senior architect – education sector

Atkins has an opportunity for a design lead to join its successful and collaborative education sector teams in London.

We are looking for a proactive and talented architect with a range of experience within the schools’ sector to work with our team on a growing portfolio of educational projects.

The role will primarily be focused on projects within the education sector – leading design teams to deliver high-quality school building projects that make a real difference to local communities. You’ll be working within a collaborative environment and taking responsibility for a variety of education projects throughout all design stages.

Responsibilities:

  • leading individual schemes and taking them through from inception to completion
  • inspiring the team to create projects that are innovative and creative in their response to the client brief
  • preparing concept scheme designs from client briefs
  • leading multidisciplinary teams in the preparation of production information and working drawing packages
  • support in securing new business opportunities including bid writing, undertaking presentations to clients/project stakeholders
  • leading a small team of architects/assistants to deliver school projects through all RIBA stages
  • client and stakeholder facing responsibilities

Requirements:

  • qualified architect/senior architect with post qualification experience
  • thorough understanding of educational design, current regulations and standards in the UK
  • a high level of school or college design experience, demonstrated through a portfolio of projects
  • an excellent designer, communicator with exceptional presentation skills
  • experience of leading a small team and reviewing the work of others
  • capable of working and completing tasks independently as well as demonstrating strong teamwork skills
  • able to present information clearly to both internal and external stakeholders
  • proficient in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUp
  • able to draw freehand sketches and illustrate to a high level
