Project architect

Vabel is looking for an experienced and talented architect to join its north London studio.

Vabel is a collective of designers, project managers and contractors who specialise in the creation and delivery of design led residential developments. We unify the creative, technical, and financial aspects of projects into a streamlined, cohesive process to deliver groundbreaking developments.

The role will involve leading complex, mixed use projects from concept through to completion. The candidate should have strong design, communication and management skills and be passionate about materials and how buildings are crafted. Experience working on multi-unit residential schemes and a sound understanding of interior architecture would be an advantage.

Key responsibilities:

  • act as project architect on a £15m mixed-use residential and commercial scheme in London
  • manage the internal design team – working closely with Vabel project and construction managers to deliver the scheme
  • lead and coordinate the project team
  • produce drawings, visualisations, presentations and specifications
  • report to associates and directors and maintain action and design registers
  • undertake cost testing exercises to balance design, quality, programme and cost. Assist with the procurement of subcontractors and materials
  • manage and mentor junior members of staff
  • input into office standards and processes

Key skills and experience:

  • ARB registered with a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience working on UK residential and mixed-use projects
  • demonstrate excellent design and presentation skills
  • experience in producing and maintaining design programmes, schedules, and action lists
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • sound knowledge of UK building regulations, current and emerging planning policy
  • experience working with external delivery architects would be an advantage
