Our company seeks a senior architectural designer with five to eight years’ professional experience to join our commercial team. At Roman and Williams, you will join a highly creative, collaborative team dedicated to executing thoughtful projects with beauty and guest experience as our main objectives.

Job description

Roman and Williams seeks an senior architectural designer with five to eight years’ professional experience in hospitality to work on a team managing multiple projects at once.The ideal applicant will be extremely self-motivated, and have the ability to think and work on multiple projects at once with both technical acumen and creative leadership. This candidate should be comfortable with communicating in detail with project team consistently throughout each project – both verbally and in written form, and delegating to appropriate members of the RW team. The candidate will be involved in all aspects and phases of design and construction and who thinks and works at the broadest and smallest of scales; and can uphold all schedule and deliverable obligations as agreed upon with clients and collaborators.

Responsibilities and duties

The position involves contributing and managing the complex coordination, development and production of projects from concept design through construction administration, installation, and project handover. Applicants should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate a strong ability in the following:

  • able to lead/guide a team on all phases of a project
  • able to manage multiple projects across the board, simultaneously
  • strong client facing capabilities
  • construction documentation level drawing work, including highly articulate design detailing. Proficiency with traditional architectural vocabulary and the fundamentals of building construction and assembly
  • strong in vendor management; and coordination with extensive consultant team inclusive of MEP and structural engineers, lighting designers, landscape designers, etc.
  • comfortable presenting ideas – both internally and externally

You will contribute to the production, coordination and management of projects from design concept through construction administration. Applicants should be comfortable working in a fast paced environment and demonstrate a strong ability in the following:

  • clear communication and distribution of information within the team
  • maintain project directories
  • ability to collaborate with consultants and work on a project team
  • design and construction documentation, (including design details). Proficiency with building systems and the fundamentals of building construction and assembly
  • participate in the development of design concepts and presentation materials
  • cartoon design presentations and architectural drawings sets
  • propose design solutions and carry these through all design phases
  • participate in development and maintenance of project schedules and Diff Docs
  • produce sheets index/drawing logs
  • researching materiality and building architectural schedules and specifications
  • review junior/intermediate designer’s work, prior to VP of residential review
  • project day-to-day coordination with consultants and third-party consultants/vendors
  • logging and filing incoming RFIs, submittals, and other external correspondence and to track progress to completion/resolution

Qualifications and skills:

  • minimum of five to eight years of professional architectural experience
  • experience in hospitality a must; retail, commercial, institutional experience a plus
  • knowledge of design and construction methods
  • ability to produce technical documentation (DD, CD/IDD)
  • fluency in AutoCAD
  • strong graphics and visual presentation skills
  • D modeling and rendering experience (Rhino, Revit) is a plus
  • dexterity with hand drawing: rendering capabilities is a plus
