Material Lab is seeking a studio coordinator to join its team in London.

Contract: permanent

Hours: full-time, 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday

Salary: competitive

Reporting to: studio manager

Background

Material Lab is a vibrant and exciting place for the architecture and design community to explore hundreds of different materials for various projects and discover the latest trends and innovations whilst benefitting from expert advice and inspiration. The BBC2’s £100k House described us as ‘A treasure trove for architects and designers’. Based in the heart of London, we are run and funded by the UK’s leading tile manufacturer Johnson Tiles and supported by some of the biggest global surfacing brands including Dulux Trade, Egger, Tektura, Mayfair Granite, Schluter Systems, Abode, Croydex and Karndean. 

Job role

To offer consistent support to the studio manager whilst the studio infrastructure and ethos are maintained, and client experience upheld to the highest level.

Main activities and responsbilities: 

In-studio:

  • handling client enquiries – email/phone/face to face
  • assisting clients when they come into the studio and advising accordingly – JT and partner products, subject to training
  • creating tile sales and orders whilst liaising with customer services
  • carrying out a regular sample replenishment for all tile samples including the curation of physical internal displays – JT
  • assisting with regular deliveries and ensuring all deliveries are unpacked and tidied away
  • occasional face to face meetings with clients, building relationships
  • organising/booking customer meetings
  • organising refreshments and beverages for meetings
  • researching new, innovative materials and keeping the studio up to date with relevant samples
  • creating and posting content for the website and social media channels whilst working collaboratively alongside our marketing team
  • collating the monthly studio newsletter alongside the studio manager
  • assist with decision making on displays, projects, and internal and external events
  • assisting in the creation of window displays
  • registering client information and samples taken on the internal sampling programme
  • supervising front and back of house areas ensuring that displays and storage are fully supplied and tidy – JT/partner
  • help maintain the studio’s high standard of presentation and client journey

Personal specification

Essential:

  • demonstrable ability to organise and multitask – this is a studio that can become extremely busy
  • excellent administrative skills and a highly organised approach to work with competent ability to prioritise a varied workload and meet deadlines
  • proficient computer literacy core skills, with the ability to use database, word processing, spreadsheet, email, and internet applications
  • understanding and appreciation of use of IT applications in improving service delivery and efficiency
  • excellent verbal communication skills with a polite and respectable telephone manner
  • confident in interpersonal team working and external client relations
  • partake in industry networking events
  • able to be methodical and work independently
  • willingness to learn and quickly increase knowledge of the materials that we showcase
  • hardworking and proactive ethics with the ability to take on diverse challenges
  • basic understanding of Adobe packages as well as having a creative flair and eye for detail
  • respectable communication skills with colleagues, staff, and senior team members

Desirable:

  • understanding of Adobe packages, particularly Photoshop and InDesign
  • understanding and experience of the application of social networking outlets
  • educated to degree or equivalent level
  • knowledge of the interior design/architecture/specification industry
  • have the flexibility to be able to partake in after-hour networking events and occasionally work outside normal office hours

Contract:

  • permanent contract with three months probationary period
