FF&E mid-weight interior designer
at Thurstan

Thurstan is hiring an FF&E interior designer to join its growing team in London.

The selected candidate should have a strong understanding of furniture and fittings and have excellent FF&E design ability and strong graphic skills. They will become an integral part of the Thurstan Design Team on projects from early concept through project realisation.

Requirements:

  • minimum of four years’ professional experience in interior design and FF&E within the high-end hospitality and residential sector
  • you should have an excellent eye for detail and colour, great knowledge of FF&E suppliers as well as proven experience working through all design stages
  • be able to produce FF&E concepts, moodboards, material proposals and presentations which meets the overall design brief and budget
  • having experience in managing FF&E budgets for high and medium-end projects
  • self-motivated and proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and within the team environment. Can present their ideas to the wider team
  • excellent problem-solving skills, with some site experience preferable
  • strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign
  • have ability to show design proposals in hand sketch format in support by using 2D/3D computer aided design software
  • have knowledge in building codes and requirements
  • value engineering skills and understanding

Responsibilities:

  • work collaboratively with the senior or project lead to support on the research and concept development through to construction
  • develop the concept design and presentation documentation for the project including design direction, research, moodboards and FF&E proposals and colour rendering of 2D plans, elevations and details
  • translating the brief into a presentation, F&FE layouts, FF&E budget documentation and a full FF&E drawing package
  • working closely with the in house 3D visualiser to develop the CGI for a project
  • manage and prioritise workload, for multiple deadlines and the ability to work on more than one project
  • site visits and client/contractor interaction. Attending furniture Prototype reviews with manufacturers
  • overseeing quality control and production of sampling, including mock-ups and prototypes of custom items. Managing client sign-off of FF&E items and documentation
  • establishing and maintaining excellent client and supplier relationships
  • assisting in sample room maintenance, including keeping supplier details and samples up to date. Keeping up to date with new products and trends

About Thurstan

Thurstan is a small-medium sized young design led studio with projects across the hospitality sector in the UK and Europe. Thurstan’s work with private clients and the hospitality industry has received key award nominations and most recently selection by House & Garden as one of their Top 100 Designers in 2021.

As former European Design Director at Soho House, James worked on houses in Istanbul, Miami, Barcelona and London giving a strong emphasis to comfort, practicality and the origins and history of a building. His background and experience living and working in LA, New York, London, Hong Kong and Barcelona honed the Thurstan aesthetic and informs individual projects from the social and cultural to private residences.
The office will be moving to an exciting new central London location.
