Edinburgh, UK
Interior designer
at Jeffreys Interiors

Jeffreys Interiors is hiring an interior designer to join its team in Edinburgh.

We are looking for a talented interior designer to join our award-winning team.

A creative chameleon, you will work alongside design director, Jo Aynsley, to deliver a diverse range of residential and commercial projects across the UK.

Our Jekyll and Hyde portfolio spans a kaleidoscope of influences, each reflecting the varied tastes, lifestyles, and characters of our clients. From bonkers hotel schemes to period property refurbs, consulting on eco-friendly new builds to refreshing a living room. We are looking for a candidate with the well-rounded experience and ability to support projects end to end, from developing the design brief to placing the final object on that custom-made bookcase. You will delight clients with designs that exceed their expectations, providing impeccably finished schemes and a first-class service from start to finish.

Day to day, you will be:

  • designing – this is not an assistant’s position, we take a collaborative approach to projects. You will be flexing your design talents and creative flair to create unique schemes, wow-ing clients with imaginative solutions and off-the-wall thinking
  • sourcing and specifying – delving into our extensive fabric and wallpaper libraries, searching our (big) black book of suppliers for that perfect piece, and going on the hunt for new and exciting products. You will liaise with suppliers, crafts and trades to transform the dream into a fully functioning reality. As well as aesthetically pleasing, you will need to know your Martindales from your IP ratings to ensure all designs are practical for purpose and adhere to national and local building and safety regulations
  • creating and presenting beautiful drawings and concept boards – you will bring your concept to life through a combination of SketchUp, Photoshop, sketches and physical samples of fabrics and finishes, effectively communicating those ideas to both clients and contractors
  • estimating – using EstiPC you will create clear and accurate estimates, ensuring clients’ budgets are well managed and projects will deliver profitable revenues in line with the business plan and targets
  • planning, checking, and checking again – making sure every i is dotted and t is crossed, you will create, coordinate and manage implementation plans for the client, our team and third parties to ensure projects are completed on time and to standard. Expect to get your hard hat and steelies on, you will be on-site to monitor progress and ensure trades are on track for completion. There will be lots of admin, emails and schedules. You will live and breathe our project management software
  • installing – it’s showtime! The walls are painted, the carpets are down. It’s time to get on-site to oversee the final stages of installation and deliveries. Box cutter and steamer in hand, you will get stuck in with the final dressing, and enjoy seeing the team’s efforts come together before handing over to the clients to enjoy their new home
  • maintaining and growing our network of clients and suppliers – you will contribute to the continued success of our team through participation in regular networking opportunities, events and CPDs… thankfully for design, that’s usually interesting, fun and sometimes involves a glass of fizz!

This will require:

  • passion and enthusiasm for what we do. A bright spark with ambition, boundless creativity and bold ideas will do well
  • strong technical knowledge. Experience in space planning, décor, flooring, lighting, furniture, window treatments and accessories is essential. Kitchens, bathrooms, cabinetry, architectural detailing, and construction would be beneficial
  • the ability to sell something that doesn’t exist yet and get clients to buy into a dream with ease. A natural people person with a genuine approach to sales, that can build long-lasting relationships, repeat business and referrals. We have targets to meet, but there’s no BS or pushy techniques here, you provide knowledgeable and honest recommendations, with client satisfaction at the top of the agenda
  • a proactive, motivated self-starter that can initiate, communicate and execute plans and prioritise workloads to deliver tasks on time and on budget. Impeccable organisation and forward planning are crucial as you will work across a number of live projects at the same time
  • a natural problem solver with a cool head, that can move mountains when they need to. Fabric has gone missing in transit, material delays, the wrong colourway, these all happen. You are solutions orientated, resourceful and can think on your feet to find the simplest route from A to B
  • a team player who strives to get the best from people. You will work closely with our in-house team and third-party architects, contractors and trades to reach shared goals
  • digital savvy. You are confident with digital communication and can use Microsoft Outlook, SketchUp, Photoshop, EstiPC, Powerpoint and Excel. Autocad and InDesign would be beneficial

Ideally looking for candidates with a minimum three years experience and proven success in the high-end luxury interiors market but would welcome interest from those that can demonstrate the necessary skills and ability to learn quickly.

Interested? Please send a CV, covering letter and portfolio via the apply for job button below by Sunday 4 September 2022.  Interviews will be held promptly, as we are hoping for the successful candidate to start immediately (within reasonable notice period).

  • full-time permanent position, working Monday to Friday, mostly 9am to 5.30pm, with flexible hours required for site visits and installs
  • based in Stockbridge, Edinburgh with some travel and overnight stays expected across the UK
  • flexi-time and work from home options available
  • full clean UK driving license required
  • competitive salary and bonus scheme, dependent on experience
