The Natural History Museum has an opportunity for a head of design to join its team in London.
About the role
The head of design is a strategic role, responsible for setting the design vision for the Natural History Museum and delivering this through multiple outputs including exhibitions, galleries, public realm and through 3D, 2D and digital in support of the museum’s strategy. You will deliver design leadership for the museum, championing high quality design, supporting a variety of audiences to engage with the museum.
You will play a key role in the successful delivery of the museum’s ambitious plans across a number of strategic areas including the development of a new brand though its roll-out and application, high profile temporary exhibitions, commercial developments and digital products.
You will be the design champion working with senior stakeholders from across the museum and you will lead the internal design studio, commissioning external designers and providing strong design leadership to deliver coherent approaches across all programmes of engagement and channels of communication.
About you
You will be an experienced design professional with experience of leading projects that encompass 3D, 2D and digital across a range of outputs including graphics, galleries and exhibitions. You will be a strong advocate for good design and best design practice, and able to shape strategies that deliver great design.
You will have a good understanding of working with a brand, marketing and graphics, experience of delivering exhibitions, RIBA design Stages, briefing, commissioning and procurement of design projects.
Your strong leadership, management and team development skills will help you lead and shape a team of 12 + graphic and spatial designers and plan, resource and manage a team and budget.
