WeCanMake is hiring a project architect to join its team in Bristol, UK.

WeCanMake is a neighbourhood test-space in Bristol imagining and making new ways to create homes that build social infrastructure and community wealth. We are a community land trust and have a community micro-factory where we use modern methods of construction to make components for a growing pipe-line of low-carbon, community-owned, genuinely affordable homes. We are looking for an ambitious qualified architect (RIBA Part 3 or equivalent) to lead our micro-site work.  This person should have a passion for working in community contexts and believe in the power of co-creation to achieve better futures for all. The ideal candidate would be someone who can demonstrate creative and technical skills; have experience of the whole design process from developing concept designs through to planning, pre-construction, and through to completion. They would have a keen interest and understanding of modern methods of construction and design for fabrication and assembly.

The project architect will lead WeCanMake’s micro-site work through the design, planning and pre-construction process to create good homes that are low carbon and help build social infrastructure and community wealth; to help ensure the efficiency and quality of WeCanMake’s micro-site delivery programme and to do so in a way that other communities can learn from and replicate; make an active contribution to developing and applying the learning from our R&D programme to each batch of micro-sites, helping to deepen and improve the overall model; to contribute to the creative and technical development of WeCanMake’s overall development programme.

Job Details

Location: Knowle West, Bristol, UK.

Hours: Part time, four days per week (30 hours per week).

Salary: £26,732 to £28,756 per annum (Full time equivalent would be: £32,696 – £35,466 per annum).

Contract: Fixed term for 18 months: June 2023 – December 2024, with options to extend.
