Assistant conservator in technology
at National Museums Scotland
National Museums Scotland has an opportunity for an assistant conservator in technology to join its team in Edinburgh, UK.
We are seeking an able, practical conservator with excellent skills to provide support to the engineering conservation section, primarily through the conservation of science and technology collections.
You will have a practical understanding of materials and treatments and will be aware of professional conservation issues and best practice. With a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, you will also have a conservation qualification or relevant work experience relating to the conservation and treatment of technology objects. Further skills will be developed as required through internal/external training and mentoring; this will be combined with a willingness to learn. You will be adept at problem solving, able to manage your time and work, alone or with others, to meet deadlines, and will have excellent communication and ICT skills.
You will be expected on occasion to work at any of the NMS sites and a clean driving license is desirable.
This post is for a fixed term of six months to cover maternity leave, and is based at National Museums Scotland, National Museums Collection Centre, 242 West Granton Road, Edinburgh, EH5 1JA.
The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday the 21st May 2023, and the interviews will take place on Monday the 5th June 2023.
The interviews will be held at the above address in person and not online.
The candidate will be expected to bring or provide a digital portfolio of relevant work. The interview process will also involve a practical test on the day.
