We Made That is seeking a senior architect to join its team in London, UK.

Are you an experienced senior architect with a desire to deliver meaningful and sustainable public projects?

We Made That is looking for a senior architect to join our growing team in our London office, as we advance a pipeline of cultural, learning and workspace delivery projects off the back of successful public funding applications. These include ambitious projects in RIBA stages 2/3 now, ranging from £1.8-£7m, that are moving forwards to commence construction in 2024.

You will be team-focused and design-orientated, with excellent technical skills and knowledge, with an extensive range of experience working across RIBA Stages 2 to 4 and with an ability to develop and nurture strong working relationships with clients and collaborators.

You may have particular expertise in industrial intensification, adaptive reuse of high street property or delivering retrofit projects. You may also have experience in delivering sustainable education buildings or working with community groups and cultural users in historic settings.

You will be driven by wanting to help create equitable places through impactful projects.

Responsibilities and tasks

The ideal candidate will be an experienced senior architect with a wide knowledge of the work stages and processes involved in delivering projects. You will be flexible and adaptable, confidently balancing a varied workload and comfortable in managing your time across projects, skills and knowledge development and wider practice initiatives.

You will be confident in maintaining an appropriate level of involvement on projects and offering support, guidance and mentorship to junior members of the team.

Project focused:

  • successfully lead project team, stakeholders and consultants on adaptive and re-use schemes across all work stages
  • deliver complex built projects to a high standard, ensuring that compliance, technical excellence and the highest quality design are achieved in all of our projects
  • lead teams in producing complex 2D and 3D CAD packages
  • act as an effective project manager, managing complex programmes, budgets and outputs
  • demonstrate a powerful public conscience in pursuing project goals and practice aims
  • possess strong communication and negotiation skills and have a good understanding of client expectations and motivations, with the ability to handle complex situations
  • successfully anticipate issues, propose and implement solutions in an effective and efficient way
  • deliver important presentations to clients and stakeholders
  • keep abreast of changes to statutory and legislative regulations and disseminate key information in an accurate and accessible way to the team and through project work
  • help to shape the outputs of the practice in line with our B Corp status and contribute to initiatives to maximise our impact
  • commit to developing our EDI strategies and embedding meaningful and sustainable social value in our projects

Competencies, skills and experience

You must be an experienced senior architect and be able to draw from your working knowledge of the design process and technical expertise. With strong project management skills and an eye for detail, you will have the ability to drive project design development and oversee the project team.

You will be adaptable and well-versed in working directly with local authority clients and consultant teams. You must be an experienced team leader and enjoy shaping a practice wide culture of knowledge sharing and perform comfortably in client-facing roles.

Essential:

  • more than five years post Part 3, with a proven track record of job running with minimum five years of professional practice experience
  • proven experience in design and delivery from concept stages to detailing and construction stages in mixed-use or adaptive-use projects
  • have held roles independently leading complex project development and managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • excellent design skills and technical knowledge
  • possess strong project management skills fluently overseeing resourcing, meeting deadlines and working within budgets, fees and programmes
  • highly experienced in successfully managing client relationships and can drive decisions in a confident and effective way
  • sensitively and pragmatically navigate working with a wide range of audiences and stakeholders
  • demonstrate an in-depth working knowledge of environmental and social performance impacts and how we can deliver these within projects
  • excellent communication skills and a sincere desire to contribute to lively, creative and productive team working
  • be familiar with city regeneration contexts and best practice
  • have fluency with Adobe CS, Vectorworks and GIS (essential)
  • exemplar working knowledge of policy and industry standards/regulations

Desired:

  • have held a senior architect role in a similar-sized practice
  • active contributor to the wider built environment profession and with a strong commitment to driving environmental and social value focused approaches within projects
  • experienced in delivering high-quality projects for public sector clients
  • experience using CMAP or similar project management software
