Southwark is looking for panel members for its design review panel in London, UK.

Are you interested in volunteering for the Southwark Design Review Panel that reviews high-profile and strategic projects in the borough?
Do you have valuable professional experience assessing the design quality of built environment proposals?
Southwark is an exciting place to be involved in design. We have transformed the way we work to reflect our drive for excellence and encourage inclusion in all of our decisions and conversations. We recognise that having a wide range of diverse voices that reflect all of our communities in Southwark is at the heart of our design review panel. Without this, we cannot ensure that we have considered design from a wide range of perspectives.
We would especially like to hear from females as well as black people and people of colour who are professionals in the built environment and can offer a combination of skills, including architecture, transport, building conservation, landscape, engineering and urban design, in order to promote inclusivity in design and placemaking across the borough.
Our design review panel is an independent voice that promotes the highest quality of design in landmark developments, high-profile schemes and important urban design initiatives in the borough. Since 2006, the panel has helped shape the borough including the plans for the Old Kent Road area, the council’s housebuilding programme, and major schemes across the borough like the Canada Water Masterplan.
Panel members are expected to attend two to three design review panel sessions each year. We offer training to all successful applicants and the opportunity to network with colleagues on the panel. Panel members are also able to gain a valuable experience in planning in London, as well as reviewing some of the most significant designs in the capital.
Panel members are appointed on a voluntary basis are not paid a salary.
The closing date for applications is 9 am on Monday 31 July 2023.

Successful candidates will be selected based on their links to Southwark and its diverse communities, the range of specialist skills they offer, knowledge of the wider built environment and their experience in assessing design quality.
