Jason Bruges Studio is looking for a designer to join its team in London.

Jason Bruges Studio has become internationally renowned for producing innovative installations, interventions and ground-breaking works. Their practice involves creating interactive spaces and surfaces that sit between the world of architecture, site-specific installation art and interaction design.

Jason Bruges is the creative director of Jason Bruges Studio, which he founded in April 2002. He leads a pioneering team of architects, designers, creative technologists, programmers, computational designers and engineers to design and build ground-breaking installations across the world. The design studio and in-house workshop are based in London Fields, east London.

We are looking for a highly skilled and solution-focused designer from an architecture, fine art and/or product/interaction design background, working across a variety of exciting international commissions, from smaller temporary installations to permanent architectural-scale works. You will be part of the design team working closely with the senior designers and creative directors to develop designs from concept to completion.

The role also involves a certain amount of experimentation, prototyping and basic electronics, as no project is the same. A sense of resilience and humour are a must as we approach everything we do with exploration and excitement.

The role:

  • work with the senior designer and design team to determine briefs, develop concept designs and narratives for a variety of art and design commissions
  • undertake research to determine requirements to help form design concepts
  • prepare sketches, designs, basic prototypes and production methods to present to management and the client
  • effectively communicate design rationale and iterations
  • work within timelines and budgets for all design stages of work
  • carry out testing and prototyping, to test concept viability
  • produce CAD drawings
  • assist with the delivery of onsite installations where required

Skills and experience required:

  • designer with strong storytelling, concept development and visualisation skills
  • three to five years of working experience in design, architecture and/ or multidisciplinary creative studio
  • experience in delivering large multi-stakeholder projects on time and on budget
  • demonstrate professional client liaison and good time management skills
  • exceptional design skills and ability to present and communicate ideas clearly
  • confident in switching between multiple tasks at any one time
  • ability to develop concepts and find the best way of producing them
  • experience of working with interactive environments
  • strong understanding of materials and manufacturing process
  • ability to read and interpret architectural plans and specifications
  • experience of design projects that have progressed from concept design through to production
  • high proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, as well as Microsoft Office software – Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • knowledge of Rhino, Cinema4D an added plus
  • manage multiple, concurrent projects in a fast-paced yet fun work environment
