Interior designer
at x+why
There is an opportunity for an interior designer at x+why to join its team in London.
Job purpose
This role presents an exciting opportunity for an interior designer who has been working in the industry for three-plus years to make their mark on a fast-growing flexible office brand, which is branching out into hospitality spaces and beyond.
You should have a good understanding and passion for the role of concept and place-based design, as this is essential to x+why’s design ethos. You will be passionate about sustainability and materials, and how we can create memorable, innovative and sustainable work and hospitality spaces. You should be excited by working for a certified B Corp and company looking to make a genuine impact through design.
The role
This role will work directly with the head of design, under the direction of the chief creative officer, on all aspects of the design of new and existing x+why spaces, across the whole portfolio. You will also work closely with other key teams in the business such as operations, sales, marketing and the site teams. The ideal applicant will have worked in workplace and/or hospitality design, with experience working on projects from concept through to site and practical completion.
Travel is involved in this role, mainly meetings in London and site visits when in construction phase, day trips to regional sites and the occasional overnight stay. The applicant must be based in or around London and willing to work from a Central London office, but with flexibility to work from home when appropriate and as agreed with the head of design.
You will deliver this by (roles/responsibilities)
The role is loosely split into the below responsibilities, but this is by no means an exhaustive list.
Design pitches:
- concept and look and feel presentations using InDesign
- space planning and test fits using Revit
- area measurements for financial modelling
The existing x+why portfolio:
- design of bespoke spaces for existing members and for new sales enquiries
- site queries from site teams or existing member queries relating to design
- sales team queries eg. area measurements and floor plan amendments
- filing O&M manuals and making sure all existing collateral is up to date
New sites:
- stage 3 tender documentation
- concept design
- GA plans
- elevations and 3D visuals, using SketchUp and Enscape
- joinery design, using SketchUp
- specification schedules
- x+why design and operations blueprint coordination
Client direct packages:
- furniture and fabric selection: brief procurement partner, advise selection and coordinate installation
- plants: brief planting partner, advise selection and coordinate installation
- artwork: brief artwork partner, advise selection and coordinate installation
- accessories and final dressing: select, procure and install all final accessories onsite
