BIG is hiring a design technology manager to join its team in London.

As the design technology manager, you will be leading the design technology team in the London office whilst also collaborating with the global DT team. You will be an all-rounder who has a foundation in BIM, computation and beyond and able to navigate and has an interest in additional disciplines including immersive AI simulations and game engines.

You will be assisting the project teams day-to-day with BIM and computational workflows as well as office wide initiatives and forward-thinking strategies to add technology to the unique design process at BIG. We are most interested in people with a passion for the intersection between architecture and technology regardless of specific software or platforms.

You will report to the director of design technology and local managing director in London, and you will be responsible for:

  • establishing, developing and implementing design technology workflows within the office
  • creating and maintaining project-specific and office-wide parametric content for both BIM and computational workflows
  • actively monitoring and streamlining Revit models and workflows between Rhino and Revit
  • actively engaging with design teams to troubleshoot and to ensure best computational/BIM practices are being followed
  • lead the in-house training for all teams covering BIM, computation and other DT areas
  • assisting teams with complex geometry, 3D coordination, energy analysis, interoperability, immersive experiences and other design technology workflows
  • educating staff in computational strategies and software, including Revit, Rhino.Inside, Grasshopper, Dynamo, etc
  • researching and testing relevant new technologies and implementation into the unique design process at BIG

We seek a person who:

  • has a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or design
  • has a minimum eight years of professional experience
  • has a strong interest in design technology beyond the confines of a single software platform
  • loves to work at the intersection of design, geometry and computation
  • has conquered the Revit Family Editor and is fluent in a visual scripting language (Grasshopper or Dynamo)
  • has a good understanding of one or more of the following: Rhino.Inside, Revit API, Twinmotion/Unreal, Enscape, Unity, AI, custom tool development
  • has knowledge of architectural design and knows the basics of architectural drawing set production and coordination
  • is an effective and engaging teacher
  • has a portfolio demonstrating work in computational design (beyond rendering)
  • is organised, structured and detail-oriented
  • has self-confidence and is persistent
  • can manage priorities with minimal guidance and capable of working independently
  • follows through and completes tasks with a sense of urgency
  • can be flexible with regard to working hours and assignments
