The role

This role reports to the head of interior design, working client side in a developing role in a growing team and business.  The role holder will assist in developing our new venues in both the UK and internationally, leading your own projects from start to completion. The successful candidate will be working in our growing in-house design team who always integrates brand consistency with an added twist to all new Flight Club and Electric Shuffle venues.

Key responsibilities:

  • manage several projects from concept development to completion
  • oversee and manage other design team members
  • ensure projects adhere to budgetary requirements whilst still achieving exceptional world-class styles
  • able to maintain document control and undertake completion of all documentation associated with construction projects, as well as coordinating with FF&E resources for each project
  • integrate with the property team and work closely with the dressing and production team
  • develop space planning layouts with senior team
  • mentor and manage junior team members

Typical project involvement: 

  • develop FOH/BOH layouts and manage all drawing packs
  • assist in producing design packs and developing finishes schedules
  • review shell specs and services details
  • technical drawing package development
  • utilise measured surveys, develop proposed general arrangement drawings from internal team direction
  • develop internal elevations with materials for FF&E dressing and scenic planning and budgets as and when required
  • liaise with M&E consultants to develop venue design requirements and oversee coordination through the project
  • review and comment on technical design aspects of the project
  • oversee services design coordination of projects, highlight and resolve issues or escalate to property design director
  • involvement with kitchen design consultants, MEP, specialist lighting, life safety systems and client direct appointments
  • assisting in joinery manufacture ROD drawings review (review and approve with head of interiors)
  • owning drawing and document management for UK and overseas projects
  • track all details of the design to ensure documents and drawings from all parties are up to date, coordinated and costed
  • manage and monitor internal design review meetings (weekly meets to monitor design elements on various projects including refurbishments)
  • management of the above on all projects with regular site presence, through all construction phases, delivery, snagging and handover
  • travel to UK sites as required; involvement on overseas projects as business developments dictate

 Skills and experience:

  • interior design degree or architectural qualifications
  • strong skills in 2D and 3D packages including Vectorworks, SketchUp skills and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign) and the ability to deliver drawing packages
  • strong knowledge and experience of FF&E (to assist buying function and give knowledge transfer)
  • five-plus years’ hospitality design experience and awareness of the wider restaurant industry style/trends, similar experience also to be considered provided there is a proven success of managing and delivering projects
  • strong design and communication skills
  • strong drawing skills to technical drawing stage
  • understanding of and experience in delivering projects from concept to construction
  • a solid understanding of UK building regulations; additional knowledge of European regulations would also be advantageous
  • ability to sketch freehand is an advantage
  • excellent project management experience with a proven background in delivering projects on time and within budget
  • knowledge of joinery, furniture and construction detailing is also essential
