Anacapa Architecture is looking for an architectural project manager and architectural designers 2 and 3 to join its team in Santa Barbara, USA.

We are seeking an architectural project manager and architectural designers 2 and 3 to become an integral part of our Santa Barbara, CA and Portland, OR collaborative studio environment, working all phases of project delivery on a wide variety of project types.

Architectural ​project manager

A successful project manager at Anacapa will skillfully manage all aspects of multiple projects simultaneously. This includes concept design through construction administration, client relationships, and the coordination of all project efforts, administrative and technical. In addition, the project manager will successfully manage resources and schedules to provide accurate timelines for projects, as well as maintain a consistent budget throughout.

Qualifications:

  • bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture
  • licensed architect or pursuing licensure (preferably in California)
  • eight to ten years’ professional design experience

AIA project manager

Position description

Manages multiple small/medium projects, coordinates all aspects of assigned projects, and estimates the scope of work. Has full responsibility for managing all aspects of multiple small to midsize projects. Prepares strategic plans for project success. Responsible for the coordination of all project efforts, administrative and technical, to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets, and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction. Actively manages client budgets, schedules, and programs; project communications and documentation; office administrative tasks; and project team assignments. Estimates fees, determines scope of work, and prepares proposals and contracts.

Pay range: $80,000-$115,000 annually

Architectural designer 3

A successful architectural designer 3 at ANACAPA will skillfully manage all aspects of project design and delivery of multiple projects simultaneously. This person will be the primary support for one or more project managers. This includes liaising with project managers, consultants, and architectural staff on all aspects of project design and delivery including client communications, design, 3D modelling, building information modelling, presentation graphics and materials, production of plans and specifications, quality control, consultant coordination, construction administration, coordination with Anacapa team members, maintaining deadlines, budgets, and schedules, and mentoring junior design staff. Designer 3 is a role for a graduate with eight or more years of architectural experience. This person will be our main Revit designer supporting a project manager or project architect and will ultimately be responsible for the daily design or technical development of a project.

Qualifications:

  • bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture
  • licensed architect (preferably in California) or pursuing licensure
  • at least eight years of professional design experience in the architectural field

AIA level 3

Position description

Professional degree in architecture, plus at least eight years of related experience. Participates in the conceptual design and provides full support throughout the entire project. Serves as an SME on specialized systems. Liaises with project management, other architects, and consultants. Develops and represents lead technical viewpoint on projects. Coordinates with the director and department head on appropriate technical solutions and product strategies. Project size differentiates this position from the senior level.

Pay Range: $76,000-$110,000 annually

Architectural designer 2

A successful designer 2 at ANACAPA will skillfully assist in managing all aspects of project design and delivery of multiple projects simultaneously. This person will be a core member of a design team to support a project manager in the execution of production, compilation, and distribution of digital drawing sets, and complete design studies and implementation of design concepts in a wide variety of mediums to support one or more projects and project managers. This includes design, due diligence, 3D modelling, building information modelling, presentation graphics, and materials, production of plans and specifications, quality control, consultant coordination, construction administration, coordination with Anacapa team members, and maintaining deadlines and schedules. Designer 2 is a role for a graduate with six to eight years’ architectural experience. This person will be the primary support for our main Revit designer supporting a project manager or project architect and, will ultimately be responsible for the daily design or technical development of a project.

AIA level 2

Position description

Professional degree in architecture, plus at least six years of related experience. Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client’s needs. Provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large complex projects. Independently applies advanced architectural concepts and designs. Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. May provide technical guidance to less experienced architects.

Pay range: $73,000-$193,000 annually

Desired skills:

  • excellent design capabilities on a wide range of projects
  • high proficiency with code analysis – plumbing calculations, egress and occupancy analysis, accessibility issues, access compliance analysis, etc.
  • extensive experience with permit submittals and design board presentations
  • extensive experience in construction detailing and administration experience
  • experience in project cost estimating and scheduling
  • extensive experience in both commercial and residential projects
  • high level of proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
  • proficiency in either Rhino or 3DS Max, V-Ray
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • exceptional attention to detail
  • ability to constructively work independently or as part of a collaborative team
  • ability to balance multiple high-priority projects in a fast-paced environment
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to prioritize and manage work independently

Travel:

  • travel is required to the Santa Barbara and Portland offices for all team-wide company events or workshops
  • occasional travel between the SB and PDX offices for training or intra-office meetings
  • for project managers, regular travel to projects that are in construction phases is required; this can be at times up to every two weeks, but typically once per month for job site visits on active projects
  • travel to job sites for potential new projects may be required
  • travel for in-person client meetings at least once per design phase if they don’t occur in the studio or at a local job site
  • travel may at times be outside of typical weekday hours to accommodate client schedules, flight availability and meeting times
