Herzog & de Meuron is looking for a lead business development – Asia market to join its team in Hong Kong.

Herzog & de Meuron is an international architectural practice based in Basel, Switzerland. Established in 1978, the practice is led by the two founders together with the partners and the CEO. Today, an international team of over 500 collaborators is engaged in a wide range of projects across Europe, the Americas and Asia. The main office in Basel works in tandem with studios in Berlin, Munich, Barcelona, Paris, London, Hong Kong, New York and San Francisco.

To strengthen our business development team, we are seeking an experienced, commercially minded and entrepreneurial lead business development for our Asian market.

As business development manager, you will play a key role in driving the growth of Herzog & de Meuron across Asia by identifying, developing and converting new business opportunities into projects. Working closely with the partners, associates, project teams and senior leadership, you will help shape our regional business development strategy, build and activate long-term client relationships, and contribute to securing significant commissions in one of our most dynamic markets.

This is a highly collaborative, client-facing role requiring a proactive and hands-on approach, balancing strategic market development with active support for live enquiries, bids and pursuits

Key responsibilities:

  • proactively identify, develop and pursue new business opportunities across Asia, with a focus on converting opportunities into successful projects
  • develop and implement market-specific business development and client acquisition strategies aligned with the practice’s long-term objectives
  • build, maintain and actively leverage strong relationships with public and private sector clients, developers, consultants and strategic partners across the region
  • utilise an existing professional network in Asia to generate opportunities and expand Herzog & de Meuron’s market presence
  • identify upcoming developments, competitions, procurement opportunities and emerging market trends, translating market intelligence into actionable business opportunities
  • evaluate project enquiries and develop pursuit strategies in close collaboration with partners, associates and project teams
  • take a hands-on role in the preparation and coordination of EOIs, RFQs, RFPs, competitions, tenders, client presentations and project proposals
  • support and coordinate live business opportunities from initial client engagement through to submission, ensuring high-quality and compelling deliverables
  • represent Herzog & de Meuron at industry events, conferences and within professional networks to strengthen visibility and cultivate new relationships
  • collaborate closely with Partners, Associates, project teams and the global Business Development team to maximise opportunities across the practice

Your profile:

  • Master’s degree in architecture, urban planning, real estate, business or a related discipline
  • minimum of five years of experience in business development, client development or strategic sales, ideally within architecture, real estate, design or the built environment.
  • strong understanding of the Asian construction, architecture and real estate markets
  • an established and active professional network across Asia, with the ability to develop and activate relationships that lead to new business opportunities
  • a proven track record of turning client relationships, market intelligence and strategic initiatives into concrete business opportunities and successful project wins
  • excellent communication, presentation, influencing and negotiation skills
  • commercially minded, entrepreneurial and proactive, with a strong team spirit, a hands-on approach and a genuine appetite for solving problems, taking initiative and embracing new challenges
  • comfortably working independently while collaborating effectively with partners, project teams and colleagues across the practice
  • strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • fluent English is essential; proficiency in an Asian language (such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese or Korean) is highly desirable
  • experience with CRM systems and Microsoft Office (particularly PowerPoint) or other presentation software; Adobe Creative Suite is highly desirable
