Part 1 architectural assistant
at Mailen Design

Mailen Design is seeking a Part 1 architectural assistant to join its team in London.

Our studio:

Mailen Design is an award-winning team of architects and designers working across studios in Oxfordshire and London.

We are a people-first business and believe every good project starts with a mutual desire to collaborate. Our commitment to quality and craftsmanship is met with a fabric-first approach to sustainability.

The practice holds enduring client relationships and partnerships in the private and public sectors.

Our practice is growing, with a diverse portfolio and exciting opportunities in commercial, multi-residential, hospitality, cultural, and private residential projects. We are well-versed in every process stage, from design and planning to construction and delivery.

We believe architecture can enhance our collective quality of life. Our dedication to creating spaces goes beyond aesthetics; we aim to make environmentally responsible buildings that foster community, connection, and wellbeing.

Role overview:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-driven Part 1 architectural assistant to join our London studio.

A significant portion of the role will focus on technical delivery in residential schemes. Around 75 per cent of your time will be dedicated to producing detailed drawings, supporting documentation, and coordination tasks.

You’ll work closely with senior team members in a structured environment that values accuracy, consistency, and care in execution. Our projects offer valuable exposure to large-scale housing and the practical delivery of complex design work.

Alongside this, you’ll have opportunities to contribute across our broader portfolio, which includes projects in hospitality, commercial, and education sectors. The remaining 25 per cent of your time may involve supporting early design stages or visualisation on smaller or concept-driven schemes.

We’re a collaborative, design-led practice with a strong studio culture and a growing team. The role would suit someone with a careful, methodical approach who enjoys the precision of technical work and thrives when contributing to long-term, in-depth projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • produce clear and consistent drawing packages using Revit, with support from senior team members
  • assist in the preparation of design concept reports, including rendered visuals using Adobe Creative Suite and Enscape
  • support the delivery of medium- to large-scale residential projects through detailed documentation and coordination tasks
  • contribute to internal reviews and assist with the ongoing development of technical and presentation materials
  • support the team in responding to site queries and preparing technical submittals as projects move into construction
  • attend site visits and consultant meetings to gain exposure to delivery processes and professional collaboration
  • support early-stage design and visualisation work across a range of studio projects as required

Essential skills:

  • RIBA Part I qualified with a degree from a recognised UK or international institution
  • strong technical interest, with a willingness to engage with detailed drawing packages
  • working knowledge of Revit and a keen interest in developing BIM skills in a project setting
  • clear communication skills, both written and verbal
  • highly organised and self-motivated, with good time management
  • a methodical, detail-focused approach to documentation and delivery, collaborative, adaptable, and eager to contribute to both project teams and wider studio culture
  • previous experience in a UK architectural practice (placement year or equivalent) is a bonus
