StudioXAG is seeking a senior technical/industrial designer to join its office in London.

About us

Designing and making some of the most exciting window displays, StudioXAG is made up of 25 full-time 2D and 3D designers, project managers, production managers, plus our in-house workshop team. Based in Leyton, East London, the XAG team specialises in design and fabrication for retail environments across the world. With projects ranging from show-stopping bespoke installations to global window roll-outs.

The role

StudioXAG are looking for a middleweight to senior technical designer to join our team in east London. Working closely with our design and production departments, you will be an advisor on all projects running through the studio, alongside producing detailed technical drawings and managing a small but growing technical team. You will have the opportunity to work with great brands on interesting projects and see your work ‘go live’ within a very short period of time.

You

You are detail-driven and thrive in a challenging and fast-paced creative environment. You have an encyclopaedic knowledge of materials and creative solutions and are fascinated by how things are made. You are equally at home solving issues on the workshop floor, as you are drawing up an in-depth specification pack. You have the ability to transform concepts into manufacture-ready drawings.

Responsibilities:

  • overseeing/advising on all design work at StudioXAG from a technical point of view
  • bridging the gap between creative design and production
  • producing technical drawings and specification packs, including CAD files for CNC/laser cutting etc
  • solving technical problems and advising all designers on technical issues, throughout the office and on all projects
  • helping to deliver fully resolved designs to both our in-house construction team and outsourced contractors
  • working closely with project managers on budgets and costings for entire project to make sure technical and creative integrity is maintained
  • lead design on more complicated technical projects
  • client facing duties when required
  • managing internal and external fabrication processes
  • liaising with suppliers, clients and project managers to ensure projects are well communicated and on-track
  • managing junior designers

Skills:

  • a minimum of three years’ technical design experience preferably within the retail industry, ideally with some experience in a workshop
  • an expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, 2D and 3D CAD software
  • an active interest in all areas of design, with experience and knowledge in a variety of different design practices
  • the ability to produce quick, high quality work
  • a thorough understanding of fabrication, materials and assembly processes
  • excellent attention to detail and accuracy

Salary: £30-40k (dependent on experience)

This is a full-time position with immediate start, based at our studios in east London.
