Associate urban designer/architect

Be First is looking to recruit an associate urban designer/architect into its
in-house design team in London.

Be First is a pioneering urban regeneration company wholly owned
by Barking and Dagenham Council and operating independently. Our
mission is to capitalise on the borough’s position as London’s best
investment and development opportunity to accelerate growth. We aim to
help deliver 50,000 new homes and 20,000 jobs in the next 20 years.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious team
working across planning, development and construction to support Be
First’s regeneration and place-making programme. Design innovation,
sustainability, creating social value and using modern methods of
construction are key principles driving the team.

You will be working on a mix of projects ranging from our small sites
programme to large estate regeneration projects, town centre mixed-use
developments and industrial intensification. You will share our passion and
enthusiasm for Barking and Dagenham and creating great places through
design and development.

We are looking for a creative urban designer or architect to lead the work
of the in-house design team, developing site briefs, capacity studies and
frameworks. The role will also include design management on Be First’s
new build housing programme.

We are looking for a designer with five to ten years experience with a range
of skills including:

  • proven experience leading the design of projects of various sizes
    from small sites to large masterplans and frameworks
  • demonstrable workplace experience developing architectural and
    urban design projects and clearly communicating these through
    drawings and presentation material
  • undertake feasibility and capacity studies for complex urban sites
  • excellent AutoCAD, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • working with external design teams and managing design
    development from inception to delivery
  • understanding of BIM and BIM strategy
  • understanding of modern methods of construction and its
    application to a large residential new build programme
  • good knowledge of UK construction and best practice
  • great communicator
  • good team player with flexible mindset
