Architectural research assistant
at BIG
BIG’s London office is seeking an architectural research assistant to be a part of one of our internal research projects.
Our study investigates the effects of global climate change on our cities and environment, and what the comprehensive solutions are for a carbon neutral human presence on Earth.
Our research aims at mapping the practical roads towards stopping the net emission of greenhouse gases and analyses this goal’s practical implications for the fundamental challenges of energy, transport, urban development, agriculture and biodiversity for a world of soon to be 10 billion inhabitants.

Join us if you are an architectural research assistant who has:
- excellent visualisation, diagrammatic, and graphical skills, to help convey the visual narrative of the research
- good aesthetic sensibility, with an eye for detail and accuracy
- strong interest in research and design tasks, centered around sustainability, energy, global issues, and the environment
- expert knowledge of Rhino and the full Adobe Suite package
- ability to express design ideas quickly, clearly and succinctly
- ability to develop design options and visuals in collaboration with the research team
- ability to prepare, develop and edit diagrams and drawings as they relate to the research project
- the ability to take on constructive guidance in response to direction from managers, while being proactive and self-motivated
- strong organisational and time management skills
- the ability to work well in a dynamic team, with a flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and collaborating
Experience and qualifications:
- a post-graduate degree in architecture or an equivalent overseas qualification
- up to three years’ post-qualification experience in the field of research, architecture and/or design
- excellent communication skills, fluent in English- spoken and written
This job description reflects the core activities of the role although there will be changes in the emphasis of duties as required from time to time. There is a requirement for the post holder to recognise this and adopt a flexible approach to work.
