Acton Ostry Architects is seeking intermediate level intern architects, architects or architectural technologists with over five years of applicable work experience on mid- to large-scale institutional or mixed-use high-rise projects to join our practice.

Established in 1992, Acton Ostry Architects is a leading Canadian design practice recognized for the creation of eloquent and innovative community, public institutional, mixed-use residential and tall wood buildings. Our 40-member design studio is located in the heart of the vibrant, eclectic Mount Pleasant neighbourhood in a bright and spacious post-and-beam building.
Our practice is rigorous, collaborative and team-oriented. We are committed to the making of architecture that thoughtfully responds to topography, climate, culture and lessons learned from buildings inherited from the past. Our design approach incorporates new technologies and materials that contribute to the realization of projects rooted in a considered, modernist idiom. Innovative and artful sustainable design, with a keen interest in mass timber and Passive House, are of particular interest to our practice.
Acton Ostry Architects is currently engaged in a careful and considered phase of expansion and growth that will offer significant opportunities for career advancement. We are presently a Mac-based office that primarily uses Vectorworks and SketchUp. As part of our expansion initiative, we are in the process of transitioning to a PC environment that will ultimately utilize Revit for the production of design and contract documentation.
Qualifications:
- five or more years’ of applicable experience with mid to large-scale institutional or mixed-use high-rise projects
- a degree in architecture or a diploma in architectural or building technology from an accredited post-secondary institution
- thorough understanding of design and contract document production with a demonstrated ability to develop details that are technically proficient and that support the architectural expression of projects
- collaborative and team-oriented approach to work
- high quality standards and proven ability to work effectively to meet deadlines
- strong presentation, communication and organizational skills
- strong design and technical CAD drafting skills, BIM knowledge and experience is an asset (proficiency in Vectorworks, SketchUp and Revit is preferred)
- consultant coordination experience
- building code knowledge and experience
- specification knowledge and experience
