&Tradition is hiring a head of product design to join its team in Copenhagen, Denmark.

&Tradition is looking for a talented and inspiring Head of Product Design to grow and develop our product collection.

The company was founded in 2010 and is part of the Nine United Family. Founded in its Nordic cultural heritage, &Tradition also cooperates widely with international artists and designers.

The vision is to create designs that focus on Nordic craftsman traditions and through interpretation and innovative materials, techniques and shapes, bridge the gap to the present with products that have a wide appeal.

&Tradition is engaged in the production and sale of classic designs by iconic craftsmen such as Verner Panton, Hvidt & Mølgaard and Arne Jacobsen, and also lend a voice to contemporary designers.

Today the collection consists of furniture, lighting and home accessories that are exported to more than 42 countries.

Position purpose

As the head of product design you are responsible for the development of our collection. Your purpose is to ensure and oversee a successful and commercial development of our furniture, lighting and accessory collection. It is also the responsibility of the head of product design to develop, improve and execute our design strategy and ensure that it is aligned with our overall business strategy.

Areas of responsibility

• the role consists of expanding and improving the contemporary and classic furniture, lighting and accessory collection and to constantly evolve and deliver on customer promise and sustainable growth for the company
• to manage the design process from start to finish and ensuring a proper handover to product development and marketing
• to ensure that the design interacts with and supports successful campaign and brand messaging
• to sketch and develop ideas into detailed drawings using computer software such as Keyshot and Rhino
• the role is a key link between the communication with our external designers, collaboration with the internal design team and translation of these designs to other departments within the company
• to work closely with external designers and families/foundations in creating strong products with a high aesthetic level
• the role consists of a managerial responsibility: to motivate, inspire and develop a strong design team
• to manage the budget related to the design development
• to travel to designers and suppliers to ensure an efficient process
• to stay aware and ahead of the current competition as well as industry trends and developments
• to research new materials, finishes and production processes

Requirements and skills:

• proven experience in a similar position within the design industry, background in product/industrial design or architecture
• experience in building, leading, and developing a team
• an effective and consistent senior leadership style is essential to achieve business goals through development of our people and culture
• motivational leader, excellent in communication and strong networking skills
• excellent at presenting and translating ideas/sketches into commercial products
• the ability to read and understand consumer behaviour and market trends
• fluent in English and able to travel internationally
