Richard John Andrews is seeking a Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in East London.
Our heavily published architecture and design studio is based in Forest Gate, London, E7 and we are looking for a confident, creative, and extremely talented architectural assistant with more than two years’ post Part 2 experience to join our studio. The ideal candidate has strong design skills, a passion for high quality architecture and an interest in creating positive impact within the built environment. Job role
The right RIBA Part 2 candidate will get full working experience through all stages of the RIBA plan of work by running projects from concept to completion and assisting in the development of the studio and other business ventures.
The position is an amazing opportunity for a RIBA Part 2 architectural assistant looking to start their Professional Practice RIBA Part 3 course as the chosen candidate will be working across 3 to 4 projects, through all stage of the RIBA Plan of Works making the perfect case study opportunity with a choice of scale and complexity of project.
The focus of the right candidate should be on helping to deliver the studios vision both within architecture and other design disciplines. By joining the studio following our recent move to our first studio space under a railway arch, the candidate will have the direct ability to assist in the future growth of the studio, delivering interesting and engaging projects and progressing their career alongside that of the director and owner.

Candidates must demonstrate:
- minimum two years post RIBA Part 2 Qualifications
- high level of design awareness demonstrated through a portfolio of projects
- strong design ability and technical detailing skills
- good understanding of relevant UK codes, Planning Policies and Building Regulations
- experience of working in UK-based architecture practice
- a working knowledge of most or all the studios chosen programmes list
- excellent presentation skills including hand drawings, digital illustration, 3D modelling and photo-realistic visualisations
- ability to work with physical models: laser cutting and 3D printing
- strong initiative, attention to detail with an organised workflow
- self-motivated, with the ability to work independently
- honesty, dedication, creativity, and willingness to learn
- clarity and confidence in communication: in writing, drawing and face to face
- fluent in both spoken and written English
- relevant work permits and must already be living in the UK at the time of application
The ideal candidate will also have an:
- interest in networking and architecture events
- understanding of residential projects across all RIBA Plan of Works stages within the U.K including in UK procurement, project management, contract administration roles within a project
- some understanding of small-scale hospitality projects; namely restaurants and shops
- a keen eye for interior design and bespoke joinery, including procurement
- interest in business, entrepreneurial concepts and the tech industry is beneficial

The role is a full-time office-based role working from our studio in Forest Gate, East London. This position is only available to applicants based in the United Kingdom.
The studio focus
The studio currently focuses on its high volume of residential projects including bespoke garden studios, extensions, renovations, conversion, and new build small scale residential projects, with a view to expanding into large scale residential developments next year.
Conceptually driven commercial projects also have a place at the studio and we have been recently increasing our participation in interesting architectural competitions to keep the creativity flowing.
Richard John Andrews is currently developing two entrepreneurial projects; one within the prop-tech industry and another within the fabrication and construction industry which will call for direct involvement by the successful candidate.
The studio is keen to find a candidate that will be able to compete with the passion, dedication, and vision of Richard himself in order to push the studio to its full potential within the field of architecture and design. We are looking for someone who is focused on making valued contributions to the progress of the company but driven to use their experience to keep the studio on its toes and constantly moving forward!
Working hours and environment
Richard John Andrews has a holistic approach to an architectural studio and candidates will be working a four-day working week in the studio with no loss in pay. The studio dubbed, ‘Forest Gate Works’ is a railway arch that is located near to Richard’s home in Forest Gate and as such candidates will benefit from a very relaxed and creative environment, with Team lunches encouraged, and use of the local surrounding businesses is promoted.
