Part 1/2 architectural assistant

GPAD is looking for a Part 1/2 architectural assistant to join its team in London.
Reports to: architect/project lead/director
Experience and qualifications: relevant architectural background and/or Part 2 qualification

Much of this work is retrofit and we enjoy understanding the character of a place and building and celebrating this through reuse. Our residential work spans from one off contemporary houses and infill schemes to new parts of the city and suburbia. No matter the scale, we focus on creating homes and communities that people want to live in. Our work responds to its context and recognises its contribution to placemaking and the environment. Responsibilities:
- seek to understand how GPAD operates and be familiar with our ethics and principles
- prepare, develop and edit, under the guidance of the project lead or nominated architect, drawings, models, images and other documents relating to the design such as schedules, issue sheets, etc
- contribute or assist as required by the project lead or nominated architect in the creative design of projects
- undertake plan checks to ensure maintenance of high standards of project delivery
- seek to understand in detail the design project
- research new materials, methods and construction techniques
- ensure all architectural guidelines and standards are met
- have a good knowledge of building regulations, British standards, construction materials/methods and engineering processes
- communicate effectively with clients, suppliers and other professionals
- develop representations of design options for further discussion by the design if required
Essential skills and qualities:
- able to demonstrate ability to undertake the above responsibilities
- excellent capabilities with Vectorworks, Photoshop and SketchUp in order to deliver work according to agreed scope of work
- excellent design skills and good 2D and 3D visual sketching
- ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritise workload
- ability to find creative solutions to problems
- ability to take initiative in response to direction or instruction
- willingness to take on board constructive criticism and adapt accordingly
- evidence of the ability to understand design decisions taken by others
- flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and commitment to improving, learning and contributing
- evidence of good construction knowledge
- well-organised and the ability to work well as a team
- excellent written and spoken English
