Xylotek is seeking a quantity surveyor to join its team in Bristol, UK.
Role overview
The quantity surveyor will ensure efficient financial control across contracting, estimating, budgeting, programming and purchasing activities within the company. The focus will be on cost management, cash flow forecasting, and enhancing value in operations, estimating and project accounting.
You will report to the operations director and play a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of projects once they enter the construction phase.
Your responsibilities will include commercial management of project finances, overseeing procurement, cash flow and ensuring projects meet financial targets.
The project management and design teams will provide support,and you will report back on lessons learned to the sales and estimating teams. Additionally, you may be asked to offer insights to the estimating team based on your experience with similar projects.
Key responsibility areas (KRAs)
KRA 1 – procurement:
- develop a procurement strategy aligned with company and project budgets
- create and manage procurement protocols, including standard templates for requesting prices to ensure clarity in the procurement process
- maintain and foster relationships with supply chain partners
KRA 2 – management:
- manage the requisitions system to ensure seamless material and resource procurement
- create and manage variation documentation as directed by the project manager
- document design changes and update budgets accordingly
- approve purchase orders while ensuring cost control
- collaborate with client teams where needed to manage expectations and provide superior service
- forecast expenditures against the project program and work closely with project managers on the overall project timeline and client expectations
- collaborate with the estimating team to set price codes and cost centres
- negotiate and finalise project accounts
- measure, record and accurately value work
- build and manage project cashflows and financial programmes to meet objectives
KRA 3 – due diligence:
- oversee contract financial management, ensuring all financial aspects are tightly controlled
- scrutinise maintenance, plant, resource and material costs to ensure procurement offers value for money
- build and expand the supplier network
- arrange pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs) for suppliers to ensure quality
- oversee all tendering and estimation processes to ensure competitiveness and accuracy
KRA 4 – reporting:
- report to the operations manager and executive board on the financial performance of each project
- prepare reports, analyses, contracts, budgets and other necessary documentation
- contribute to lessons learned sessions post-project to improve future performance and strategies
