Mehrai Design is looking for an enthusiastic creative and experienced senior interior designer to join our London studio on a freelance basis.
We’re looking for someone with a minimum of seven years’ professional experience who is used to independently running interior design projects and workstreams from concept through delivery and can step into a fast-moving project and contribute immediately.
This is a hands-on all-round senior role. You should be equally comfortable developing a concept space planning working in 3D sourcing and specifying FF&E producing drawing packages coordinating consultants and resolving design on site.
Our work increasingly explores neuroaesthetics and how light materiality sound spatial relationships and sensory experience influence how people experience a space. An interest in this area would be particularly welcome as would experience with WELL principles or WELL accreditation.
The role:
- running interior design projects and taking ownership of key design workstreams
- concept and design development
- strong space-planning and test fitting
- 3D modelling and visual design development
- FF&E sourcing specification schedules and coordination
- materials finishes bespoke furniture and joinery
- producing and overseeing drawing and presentation packages
- coordinating architects consultants contractors and suppliers
- managing design actions information and deadlines
- attending and contributing confidently to client and consultant meetings
- site visits design reviews and resolving site queries
- supporting projects through RIBA Stages two and three and into delivery
Essential skills and experience:
- minimum seven years’ professional interior design experience
- proven experience independently running interior design projects and workstreams from concept through delivery
- excellent space-planning and test-fitting skills
- excellent AutoCAD skills
- confident 3D modelling skills – SketchUp and/or Revit
- strong FF&E capability – sourcing specification schedules procurement knowledge and supplier coordination
- strong Microsoft Office skills particularly Excel for FF&E schedules trackers and project information
- Adobe Creative Suite
- strong understanding of materials bespoke joinery and construction detailing
- experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams
- genuine site and project delivery experience
- highly organised and comfortable managing multiple workstreams and deadlines
- confident communicating with clients consultants contractors and suppliers
Experience in hospitality and/or high-end co-working interiors would be particularly relevant.
We’re looking for someone who is creative curious and genuinely enthusiastic about design but also practical and experienced enough to take ownership and run with a project. You should enjoy both the ideas and the detail.
An interest in neuroaesthetics wellbeing-led design and WELL principles is highly desirable – WELL accreditation would be a bonus.
This is a freelance/project-based position working predominantly from our Wimbledon studio with meetings and site visits across London. This is not a fully remote role.
