CTO Lighting is looking for a product designer to join its practice in London.
CTO Lighting is a family owned business that has built an enviable reputation worldwide over the past 20 years working with some of the leading interior designers such as David Collins Studio and Martin Brudnizki on exclusive projects such as Chiltern Street Firehouse and St Pancras Hotel. Both our stock and bespoke departments supply projects worldwide to international clients including British Airways and Gordon Ramsay. This is a great opportunity to work with some of the industries finest in a progressive design-led company.
We design and manufacture hi-end decorative lighting to the highest standards at our factory in the UK. You will join our friendly and experienced team, working with them in a fast-paced commercial environment to support the growth we are experiencing.
CTO Lighting has a vacancy for a product designer working within our Angel based design studio. Reporting to the design manager you will initially be assisting with the development of our new stock products but should quickly move onto managing your own projects from concept through to manufacture and launch.
Role
The role offers an exciting opportunity for someone who has recently graduated with a degree in product design, industrial design or a related discipline.
You will:
- support existing design team members with their development projects
- model parts and Assemblies with Solidworks 3D CAD
- produce engineering drawings with Solidworks to BS8888
- solve production or design issues and update drawings as required
- contribute new concepts to the team for future development
- build prototypes in our studio and our factory
- design packaging
- perform testing on new products, ensuring their compliance to relevant standards
- train factory staff in the assembly and testing of new products
- visit suppliers to discuss designs and inspect parts
- use Adobe Illustrator to create datasheets, installation instructions and brochures
- assist with the organisation of trade shows and photoshoots
Candidate
You will come from a product, industrial or furniture design background and be able to demonstrate your ability to develop and implement product designs across a range of materials and manufacturing processes.
You will be an enthusiastic, organised person with an interest in design and will relish the chance to see how a successful design-led company operates.
Additionally you will:
- have a passion for design excellence, ideally within luxury lighting
- be competent in the use of SolidWorks, Illustrator and MS Office
- be mechanically minded and enjoy being hands on with products
- have great communication skills and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- have the ambition and drive to keep projects moving
- be capable of handling multiple projects and ensuring deadlines are met
- be keen to learn and progress within the company

There is a pension scheme and 20 days holiday (and an extra one day for every two years worked) plus statutory holidays. General hours are Monday to Friday 9-6pm.
