March & White is looking for an intermediate interior architect to join its office in New York.
International luxury design house March & White LLC with offices in London, NY and LA, are recruiting for a highly motivated, committed, all-rounder intermediate interior architect to join our NY studio. The successful person will work on exclusive residential, hospitality and commercial projects.
The candidate will have strong conceptual skills, understanding of space planning, good knowledge of interior detailing and construction administration. Furthermore, you must be comfortable working autonomously and possess exceptional attention to detail. Candidates need to be able to work in an office that has a casual corporate culture with a collaborative team approach. Applicants should be familiar with the interior design process from pre-design through design development.
The candidate should be a US national or have a current work visa for the US.
Education and experience
You must have a bachelor of interior and architectural design, a BSc in interior design or similar, with three to five years’ minimum post-graduate experience.
Role outline
As an intermediate interior architect, you will have strong conceptual skills, drawing and space planning, knowledge of interior detailing and a good knowledge of FF&E specification. Furthermore, you must be comfortable working autonomously and possess exceptional attention to detail.
You will work closely with a team of skilled designers and technical architects, all of whom are led by an associate director. You are expected to be ‘hands-on’ in your approach whilst using your initiative to complete tasks with a calm natured response.
Required skills
- proven experience in dealing with clients, contractors and other suppliers in a highly professional manner
- proven knowledge in preparing tender and construction packages (schedules of works, lighting & power, plumbing, schedules etc)
- proven experience in creating and developing conceptual designs including the skill of using colour and texture, and the ability to explain these to others
- proven working knowledge of new build construction and refit projects including knowledge to spec furniture (materials, finishes, detailing and scheduling)
- experience in developing residential planning applications and proven knowledge of the US planning system
- proven experience in AutoCAD, Photoshop, 3D modelling software, Excel, Estimate and other industry software packages would all be advantageous
- proven knowledge of the US planning System and ADA requirement
- proven experience to prepare construction document, and coordination with MEP/lighting designer/record of architect
- ability to advise clients on all technical aspects of a design project
- some knowledge of studio software would be advantageous
- self-motivated but also a good team member who is able to work quickly and efficiently in an organised manner
- self-confident and able to cope with constructive criticism of your work
- organised, and able to manage your time effectively, whilst mentoring junior team members were required
- excellent communication skills including verbal, written and visual
Responsibilities
- working accurately to a written or verbal brief, which details how each individual space will be used
- producing detailed drawings to a very high standard and level of accuracy
- preparing and presenting design proposals to clients
- maintaining and inspiring creativity
- liaising with contractors and other professionals and specialists
- attending regular meetings with clients, contractors and other specialists
- building and growing existing client relationships
- coordinating the work of the design team and sub-consultants
- making site visits to monitor progress
- dealing with site/construction problems and RFIs etc that might arise during the construction phase
- understanding of and compliance with the AIA (American Institute of Architects) ‘Ethics and Professional Rules of Conduct’
- mentoring and assisting junior designers
