Intermediate to senior architect – retail design

Sugarhouse Design and Architecture is hiring an intermediate to senior architect – retail design to join its team in New York.
We are seeking a seasoned senior architect with deep expertise in retail design to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative design environment, leads with clarity and creativity, and brings strong technical and conceptual skills to fast paced projects.
Responsibilities:
- lead architectural design for retail and mixed-use projects from concept through construction administration
- develop compelling design narratives, presentation materials, and detailed drawing packages
- oversee project workflows, schedules, and consultant coordination
- mentor junior designers and architects as required
- ensure all work adheres to applicable codes, permitting requirements, and project budgets
- collaborate closely with clients, fabricators, and internal team members to bring concepts to life
- conduct site visits, field surveys, and construction observations as needed
Qualifications:
- professional degree in architecture
- eight plus years’ of post graduation experience with a strong background in NYC retail production
- proven ability to develop design concepts that marry brand, function, and customer experience
- strong technical skills including detailing, building systems, and construction documentation
- proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite,etc
- excellent communication and presentation abilities
- ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- licensure is not required

Someone who is design driven, organized, and comfortable leading both the creative and technical sides of a project. A strong visual sensibility and a deep understanding of how retail environments shape customer behavior are essential.
