CTO Lighting is currently seeking a product designer/senior product designer to join its team in London.

CTO Lighting is a family owned business that has built an enviable reputation worldwide over the past 20 years working with some of the leading interior designers such as David Collins Studio and Martin Brudnizki on exclusive projects such as Chiltern Street Firehouse and St Pancras Hotel. Both our stock and bespoke departments supply projects worldwide to international clients including British Airways and Gordon Ramsay. This is a great opportunity to work with some of the industries finest in a progressive design-led company.

We design and manufacture high-end decorative lighting to the highest standards at our factory in the UK. You will join our friendly and experienced team, working with them in a fast-paced commercial environment to support the growth we are experiencing.

CTO Lighting has a vacancy for a senior product designer working within our Angel based design studio. Reporting to the design manager you will be responsible for delivering complete projects from concept through to manufacture and launch.

Role

The role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced product designer to work on some of the most interesting lighting design projects around the world. The job involves developing products for our own stock range as well as for our bespoke service.

You will:

  • be responsible for developing products from scratch with minimal supervision, ensuring products are safe, of high quality, manufacturable, transportable and most importantly wow our clients
  • actively contribute new concepts/ideas for out new ranges
  • model parts and assemblies with SolidWorks 3D CAD
  • produce engineering drawings with SolidWorks to BS8888
  • solve production or design issues and update drawings as required
  • develop production tooling and jigs in collaboration with suppliers/ our factory
  • build prototypes in our studio and our factory
  • design packaging
  • perform testing on new products, ensuring their compliance to relevant standards
  • train factory staff in the assembly and testing of new products
  • visit suppliers to discuss designs and inspect parts and form relationships
  • seek out and visit new suppliers to assess their suitability for our production needs
  • use Adobe Illustrator to create data sheets, installation instructions and brochures
  • organise trade shows and photoshoots with the assistance of the team
  • be continually looking to improve our products and process

Candidate

You will come from a product, industrial or furniture design background and be able to demonstrate your ability to develop and implement product designs across a range of materials and manufacturing processes.

You will be an enthusiastic, organised person with an interest in design and will relish the chance to work within a successful design led company.

Additionally, you will:

  • have at least five years’ product design experience developing products cradle to grave
  • be highly competent in the use of SolidWorks, ideally you be a SolidWorks certified professional
  • be able to communicate your concept ideas effectively through sketches, models and 3D CAD
  • have a thorough understanding of CE marking and ideally BS60598
  • have proven experience of managing projects with sales value in excess of £100k
  • have a good understanding of lighting technologies and electrical item specification
  • have a broad technical knowledge of production processes and materials
  • be able to estimate production cost of parts across a variety of materials and processes
  • be able to perform basic engineering calculations and FEA within SolidWorks
  • be mechanically minded, have strong workshop skills and enjoy being hands on with products
  • be able to deal with customers in a clear and professional manner
  • have meticulous attention to detail
  • have great communication skills and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • have the ambition and drive to keep projects moving

CTO Lighting offer an excellent opportunity for your personal development, a profit share scheme and a great working environment. The salary will depend on your skills and experience. There is a pension scheme and 20 days holiday (and an extra one day for every two years worked) plus statutory holidays. General hours are Monday-Friday 9-6pm.
