Business development associate
at MASS Design Group

MASS Design Group is seeking a business development associate to join its team in Boston, USA.

Our philosophy: architecture can change lives

Architecture is not neutral; it either heals or hurts. Architecture is a mechanism that projects its values far beyond the walls of the building and into the lives of communities and people. To acknowledge that architecture has this kind of agency and power is to acknowledge that buildings, and the building industry that erects them, are as accountable for social injustices as they are critical levers to improve the communities they serve.

As a firm, we have seen these causes and effects play out in the rural hills of Rwanda and the slums of Port-au-Prince. We have seen them in our own communities at home as well, from Poughkeepsie, New York, to Montgomery, Alabama, where great racial and economic injustice have disenfranchised communities and opened our eyes to how cities divide, separate and disempower. Architecture and the built environment are more than neutral participants in the propagation of injustice. This is why we started MASS Design Group. The stakes are too high and the accountability too low to not insist that architects do something about addressing these challenges.

Since 2008, MASS has developed a reputation for our pioneering commitment to social impact and environmental sustainability through award-winning and innovative work. We are driven by a focus on maximum impact for the constituents our projects serve. In an era of “starchitecture,” where novel form and urban branding is prioritized over performance and social justice, MASS strives to demonstrate that great design can engage civic responsibility, deliver economic and social outcomes, and inspire by bringing beauty and dignity to those most often denied or displaced by architecture.
