Intermediate designer
at Nicemakers
Nicemakers is hiring an intermediate designer to join its team in Amsterdam.
Our full-time designer based in or around Amsterdam is responsible for all aspects of the design process within Nicemakers. You work under the direction of the creative directors and Head of Design to create exceptional concepts and designs that inspire.
We expect a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently to handle high volumes of work in tight deadlines while being organized throughout several projects simultaneously.
You will be working within a small team, in an office where no day is the same and everyone is a part of contributing to the work as well as to the atmosphere of the team.
We are looking for someone already based in Amsterdam, or able to commit to moving within a short time to join a number of new, exciting projects starting.
Role description:
- ability to quickly visualise design concepts; from sketches, verbal and written direction and easily make them look presentable
- ability to produce presentations in a variety of styles to suit individual briefs
- developing the design from concept creation through to design development and implementation
- detailing of custom made furniture in consultation with interior millworker/shopfitter, finalising the details
- build strong, lasting relationships with 3rd parties; external product designers, suppliers, drafting agencies and architects.
- must be able to combine creative ideas with technical requirements to resolve design detailing
- extensive knowledge of interior systems and construction
- strong ability to produce detailed and accurate construction document packages including plans, sections, elevations, and details
- ability to specify and organize finishes, FF&E, and lighting schedules
- ability to produce detailed millwork packages for shopfitters, with awareness of manufacturing costs, appropriate material and hardware selection
- ability to create professional presentations for clients
Qualification and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree of interior design
- minimum of four year’s work experience
- experience in the hospitality design sector, specifically in large scale hotel design and high end residential
- experienced in custom furniture design
- excellent 2D drawing skills (Vectorworks) is an absolute must
- excellent digital skills to produce presentations (Adobe CS knowledge, particularly InDesign and Photoshop)
- 3D skills (Vectorworks/Sketchup/hand sketches), to be able to study spatial design, FF&E design and create 3D artist impressions
- excellent Microsoft Office skills to be able to set up and maintain schedules and specifications sheets
- fluent in English, both verbally and in writing
- knowledge of Dutch supplier market
- EU citizen or appropriate working permit essential
