BIG is seeking an architectural assistant to join its team in London.

Our London office is currently seeking an architectural research assistant for one of our internal research projects. Our study investigates the effects of climate change on our cities and environment, and what the global solutions are for a carbon neutral human presence on earth.

The study is aimed at mapping the practical roads towards achieving a carbon-neutral planet earth, while addressing the fundamental challenges of energy, transport, industry, biodiversity, resources, water, food and urban development for a world of soon to be 10 billion inhabitants. The purpose of the project is to present an overview of the solutions to stopping the global net emission of greenhouse gases; and to analyse the vast practical implications of the goal of a 100% sustainable human existence on planet earth.

Join us if you are an architectural research assistant who has:

  • excellent visualisation and graphical skills, and a good eye for aesthetics
  • strong interest in research and design tasks, centered around sustainability, energy, global issues, and the environment
  • the ability to express design ideas quickly, clearly and succinctly
  • the ability to develop design options in collaboration with the design team
  • a strong ability to prepare, develop and edit drawings and models as they relate to the project
  • strong organisational skills, able to work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines
  • the ability to take on constructive guidance in response to direction from managers, while being proactive and self-motivated
  • a keen eye for attention to detail and accuracy
  • expert knowledge of Rhino and the full Adobe Suite package
  • the ability to work well in a dynamic team, with a flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and collaborating

Experience and qualifications:

  • a post-graduate degree in architecture or an equivalent overseas qualification
  • one to three years professional experience post-graduation
  • proven knowledge of research methods from relevant research projects within the fields of architecture, design and sustainability
  • excellent communication skills, fluent in English- spoken and written

This job description reflects the core activities of the role although there will be changes in the emphasis of duties as required from time to time. There is a requirement for the post holder to recognise this and adopt a flexible approach to work.
