Corstorphine & Wright is seeking an urban designer to join its team in London or Canterbury, UK.
We are Corstorphine & Wright, an award-winning, AJ100 architectural practice with studios across the UK. We are a dedicated team of 200+ enthusiastic individuals who care about creating places that foster human connection while adding commercial, civic, environmental and social value.
We are looking for a mid-level urban designer/masterplanner who can help us to build a dedicated urban design team from the ground up. You will be working closely with the director of urban design, and you will be supporting our studios across the practice in delivering our growing portfolio of high-profile masterplanning projects. Whether you work in London or Canterbury, one thing is certain, you will have the opportunity to play a vital role in strengthening and developing Corstorphine & Wright’s reputation for placemaking.
The ideal candidate will have UK experience of projects in a similar role relating to town centre regeneration, strategic housing allocations, cross-sector masterplanning and design coding.
General skills
Key candidate requirements include a BSc/MSc/MA degree in urban design, preferably with an architectural background.
Also, the ideal candidate will exhibit the following skills:
- experience in residential, mixed-use regeneration and masterplanning projects
- experience in running and managing projects
- proven experience working in a high-quality, design-focused practice
- awareness and an understanding of current UK planning policy and RIBA work stages
- a keen interest in, and experience of, mixed-scale masterplanning projects, preferably across a range of sectors
- ability to work collaboratively
- ability to analyse, communicate and present contextual issues from surrounding areas
- excellent drawing and presentation skills and the ability to formulate and communicate a design idea and evolution of a concept
- excellent report writing skills with an ability to convey complex strategies using clear and concise language
- ability to build rapport with clients
- ability to coordinate the inputs of related disciplines that feed into the master planning process
- pro-actively communicate within a project team, engaging with senior and junior colleagues
- attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, able to work independently and manage time to meet project deadlines
- very good graphic skills (including hand drawing)
Technical/software:
- Adobe creative suite especially Photoshop and InDesign
- AutoCAD, SketchUp (necessary), Revit (preferred)
