Junior interior designer

Hollie Bowden Interiors is looking for a junior interior designer to join its team in London.
We are looking for an enthusiastic junior interior designer or junior interior architect to play a vital role in our team, working across the studio on projects in the UK, Europe and globally.
Responsibilities will touch on all aspects of the studio, including: studio operations and appearance, project support, design research, presentations and drawing packages.
Apart from an incredible eye for detail and love of design, candidates should have at least two years’ professional experience working in a design studio.
The junior designer is responsible for assisting the lead designer on projects, in both drawn and written information. May also include the running and administration of smaller interiors jobs under direction. To work closely with other members of the design team, creative director, operations manager, head of studio, head of finance and technical director throughout project duration.
Project programming
Monitor and take responsibility for ensuring that own works are produced in accordance with the requirements of the project programme.
Design:
- work with project leader on development of all aspects of project design. Take notes during reviews/meetings/discussions and liaise with project leader regarding resultant actions required
- take responsibility for ensuring that all information produced and issued is correct and fit for purpose
- consult with project leader, head of studio and others wherever further guidance is required
- maintain full communication with all other project team members to enable successful co-ordination of all works
- thoroughly review own works prior to project leader project leader, head of studio reviews
- ensure that works carried out and issued by the office are in compliance with the requirements of relevant statutory approvals (e.g. planning etc.), current regulations (e.g. building control, british standards, etc.). This should include the procurement of specialist advice where necessary. Consult with project leader, project leader or head of studio wherever further guidance is required
Project administration:
- take responsibility for ensuring that own works are carried out in accordance with the administrative requirements for the project and utilise standard office document formats/procedures
- manage developments in projects’ photo stream and plot furniture/lighting into drawings in a timely way
- take responsibility for the filing of information on own projects, i.e. save all attachments for your and lead designer’s project emails in the relevant ‘received’ folders. Save all outgoing attachments from your and lead designer’s project emails into the relevant ‘sent’ folders
- keep track of email threads from yourself and from your project lead and prompt for responses if unanswered/pending
- set up for meetings, put away and re-file all samples and drawings after meetings. Manage project drawers and make sure all project samples are stored in the relevant place
- prompt your manager for tasks when you have capacity and aim to pre-empt tasks/next steps before they are assigned
Studio administration:
- take responsibility for the studio’s architectural and FF&E samples kept in the studio and meeting area
- ensure all sample baskets and trays are clearly labelled and kept in order
- ensure the studio has up-to-date samples and that all samples are clearly labelled
- order copies of samples as when they are required if they are used for different projects
- ensure all samples and baskets are neatly put away after use.
- manage samples arriving, notify the design team and catalogue / store in the relevant place
- label any unlabelled samples that arrive. Keep on top of cataloguing samples and ensure they are stored in the relevant space
- coordinate and arrange supplier meetings
- file any received information or catalogues (paper or digital) in the relevant place: on the appropriate shelf, on the supplier spreadsheet and the supplier folder on the server
General administration
Reception support
Provide general support (when needed) to the studio’s reception: answer telephones, receive guests/clients/couriers, etc., provide refreshments for internal meetings, book couriers/taxis, run errands (lunches/sample/product requests).
Researching of information
Researching of information both internally (library and samples, etc.) and externally (consultants, suppliers and specialists, etc.).
Retrieval of library information or samples
Retrieve information from literature and samples libraries as required by the design team.
Helpful office tasks
‘Muck in’ when opportunities arise: washing up, popping to the shop to buy milk/tea bags, etc.
