Mid-weight interior designer

Buchanan Studio is seeking a mid-weight interior designer to join its team in London.

Position: full time middleweight interior designer

Start date: ASAP

Required skills and attributes:

  • an excellent knowledge of Vectorworks, Adobe Creative Suite
  • ability to draw in 3D using SketchUp (or other software) is highly desirable
  • experience using Estimac is highly desirable
  • good technical ability
  • rigorous attention to detail
  • creativity, a natural instinct for style and an eye for good design
  • a positive outlook
  • a passion for sourcing FF&E
  • good knowledge of suppliers, products and materials
  • an “all-rounder” when it comes to FF&E as, depending on the client, we have a need for budget friendly solutions as well as very high end, including bespoke furniture and lighting, reclaimed materials and vintage/antique furniture
  • a good understanding of project costs and budgets
  • an ability to take full ownership and responsibility of your own workload
  • a willingness to “muck in” we are a small team, so we all help across all aspects of the business from time to time
  • excellent organisational and time management skills
  • good communication skills, as you will need to present your ideas to the rest of the team and liaise with contractors, consultants and clients
  • a problem solver with strong initiative and resourcefulness
  • ability to receive constructive feedback
  • an ambition to grow with the studio, becoming a long term and integral part of the team

Role and responsibilities:

  • supporting the creative director and associate/senior designers across everything from concept designs to completed tender packs, construction drawings and on-site management – drafting plans, elevations and detailed design drawings
  • creation of mood boards and concept presentations to clients
  • FF&E sourcing, procurement and installation
  • sourcing props for photography shoots and/or events
  • creating FF&E budgets and scheduling via Estimac
  • meeting with suppliers, sourcing new suppliers and developing relationships with artisans and makers
  • fulfilling production requirements for custom furniture and lighting for our projects
  • keeping the studio’s sample library organised and up to date
  • arranging and overseeing photography of completed projects including on site styling and curation of props
  • willingness and ability to travel internationally where may be required on projects
  • attendance of client meetings and note taking
  • representing Buchanan Studio on-site and at third party and/or client meetings where required

This description reflects the core activities of the role but is not intended to be all-inclusive and other duties may be required in addition to changes in the emphasis of duties as required from time to time. We are a small team with a variety of creative projects on at any one-time including parties, branding and other projects not all interiors related. There is a requirement to recognise this and adopt a flexible approach to work.

Hours of work: Mon-Fri 9am-6pm, with some flexibility on working from home.

Salary: competitive. Dependent on experience.
